The Past Comes Knocking – Chapter 8

Chapter 8 – Manhandled Drama

May 25, 2004 – Philadelphia, PA – The Starlight Ballroom – Backstage Area

“I wasn’t trying to make any statements Marc.  We were only singing,” JT stated, looking over at Justin as he smiled.

“Sure you were,” Marc said, walking around Glitter, looking down at her as he stopped, shook his head and then lunged towards JT, wrapping his fingers around JT’s neck, trying to choke him.

“What the hell!”  Justin screamed, jumping on Marc, trying to get him away from JT.  “We need some help in here!”

“What in the hell is going on in here?”  Nikki asked as she and Mo’ette rushed into the room, stopping in their tracks, witnessing Marc’s actions.

“Get your hands off of him!”  Mo’ette screamed, moving passed Nikki, grabbing Marc by the collar of his shirt, yanking him away from JT.  “Do you really think you can get away with putting your hands on him?”

“Get your filthy hands off of me bitch!”  Marc screamed as he struggled to get away from Mo’ette, trying to get back to JT as she popped him in the back of the head.  “Let me go bitch!”

“Shut the hell up!”  Mo’ette snapped, shaking her head.  “What in the hell did you think you were trying to do?”

“Killing him and that’s what I intend to do!”  Marc snapped, breathing hard as he stopped struggling, seeing as he wasn’t getting away from Mo’ette.

“Yeah, he’s flipped his lid completely this time,” Nikki said as she pulled out her cell phone.  “I guess I better get security in here and have them keep an eye on him.”

“No, call the damn police.  I’m going to have him arrested and then he’ll know what it’s like to be the rest of us, having to be around him,” JT said as he rubbed at his neck.  “If I didn’t have the self-control that God, so blessed me with, I would beat the hell out of your ass and then leave you here for dead, but I’m not going to do that.  I’m going to let you suffer in jail, you rotten bastard!”

“You wouldn’t dare,” Marc said as JT looked at him strangely, pulled out his cell phone and then pressed a speed-dial button.

“This is JT Poole, could you please send for the police and have them sent backstage immediately.  Yes, there’s a big problem back here,” JT stated as Marc’s eyes widened.  “I dared and when the police get here, you’ll finally be out of my life, for good.  I’m done Marc, you’re fired!”

“What!  You can’t fucking fire me!”  Marc screamed, lunging for JT again as Justin and Mo’ette jumped in front of him, blocking him and pushing him backwards.

“I just did Marc.  Your actions tonight have violated the conditions of our working relationship.  If you come any damn where near me again, the police will be the least of your worries,” JT said as Justin wrapped his arms around him.  “I’m not going to allow you to put your hands on me and just get away with it.  You’re totally done.”

“I’m your damn manager, I’m not done here,” Marc said, struggling to get by Mo’ette.

“Correction, you were my manager and you’re done,” JT said as Mo’ette shook her head.

“Baby, don’t you worry about him,” Mo’ette said, socking Marc in the stomach as he went down to the floor like a sack of potatoes.  “Stay down there, that’s where scum like you belong.”

“Is there a problem here?”  A police officer asked, entering the area.

“I want that man arrested, he tried to kill me and all these people here are witnesses,” JT stated as Glitter turned her back to the officer.

“I—I didn’t see anything,” Glitter spoke as everyone turned and looked at her strangely.

“Oh no that bitch didn’t,” Nikki said as she moved over to Glitter.  “You know what; you’re not worth the damn time.”

“Shut the hell up ho,” Glitter said, pointing her finger in Nikki’s face.

“You two break it up,” the police officer demanded, moving over to where Nikki and Glitter stood. “This is Officer Breck, I’m going to need a car.”

“Possibly two,” Nikki said, cutting her eyes at Glitter.  “I think someone will need to take this trifling ass heffa in too, real soon.”

“Fuck you Nikki Knotts, fuck you,” Glitter said as JT shook his head.

An Hour Later – The Radisson Plaza – The Hotel Restaurant

“Are you fucking happy now?”  Glitter asked, sitting down at the table.  “Because of you and your fucked up actions, we’re probably going to end up on the damn news again.”

“I can care less if we end up on the damn news or not,” JT replied as he sat down at the table.

“It’s not JT’s fault that Marc went to jail, it’s his own fault,” Nikki stated, pointing her finger at Glitter.  “We weren’t on the news, Marc was.  The only thing that was actually said about us was that he was our manager and that he did something unsavory after tonight’s show.  It’s not JT’s fault that he chose to act like damn asshole.  If he had behaved himself like any normal civilized person should, he wouldn’t be in the situation that he’s in right now.”

“Marc only acted that way because of what he and Justin did at the show,” Glitter stated, shaking her head.

“I didn’t do anything to make him do what he did,” JT stated, looking down at the table.  “He did what he did because he couldn’t control his damn self.”

“I think he did it because you didn’t give him what he wants,” Nikki stated as she looked down.  “Is that why he’s acting like such a fool?”

“From what we already know, he wants him to be his man,” Glitter said as Nikki rolled her eyes and then shook her head again.

“Guess what missy, he can’t have me, I’m not going to be his man,” JT stated as Glitter glared at him.  “I’m not some damn piece of property that people can just fight over.  I’m not lowering myself down to his damn level to make him or anyone else happy.”

“Hmph, maybe you should be,” Glitter said, crossing her arms across her chest.  “Hell, the both of you are gay.  If the both of you being together will keep the damn peace in this group, maybe you should just go ahead and give him what he wants.  Give up the ass to him or something. Isn’t that what he wants from you?  Isn’t that what you gay guys do?  Besides, we don’t need this damn drama that’s going on right now.  We already had one damn thing looming over us, now we have another.”

“Excuse me, am I fucking dreaming here?  Did I fall asleep and not know it?  Are you fucking kidding me here?  Is this bitch wrapped tight or is it just me?”  JT asked, looking over at Glitter as she looked at him as if he were crazy.  “Yes, I asked that damn question.  You must be out of your God damned blasted mind to think that I would actually let Marc Prestige touch me in that way, to actually be with him, to keep the damn peace in this damn group.  As I said before, I’m done and I mean it.  I’m not going to have him or anyone else for that matter, putting their hands on me the way he did earlier.”

“He’s going to get out of jail, sooner or later and then what?”  Glitter asked as she looked at JT and then pointed her finger at him.  “You might as well think about that.  Besides, you can’t just up and leave, you have a damn contract.  You can’t fire him either.”

“I can and I did,” JT said as he shook his head.  “I don’t give a damn about that fucking contract.  Let the label sue me and take me to court and then I’ll tell every damn thing I know about the crooked dealings they’ve been up to.  Let them fucking try me.”

“It’s not just your damn neck on the line, it’s all of ours!”  Glitter snapped, sliding closer to JT.  “You’re not the only concern here.  What about us?”

“What about you Glitter?  It sounds like you’re more concerned about your own damn neck, than anyone else’s.  You always said you could do better than being my back-up, so prove it, now’s your chance,” JT said, looking at Glitter a final time as he turned his back to her.

“Okay you two, we need to calm things down,” Nikki said as she waved her hand, trying to stop JT and Glitter from saying more.

“Come on baby, don’t you two fall apart now, you gotta be calm like Nikki said,” Mo’ette said, rubbing JT’s back.

“I am calm Mo’ette, I’m just tired of hearing the crap from the All Mighty Glitter,” JT said as he shook his head.

“You wouldn’t have to hear crap from me, if you did what you were supposed to damn do!”  Glitter snapped as she stood up from the table as Nikki grabbed her arm and then pushed her back down in the seat.

“Cut it out you two,” Nikki said, sighing.  “So, what happens now?”

“Ask him,” Glitter said as Nikki picked up the menu and then opened it.

“With the way things are going right now and the reaction we got from the fans at tonight’s show, I’m sure the rumor mill will be bustling real soon,” Nikki said, sighing again.

“I—I don’t know what’s going to happen next,” JT said as he looked at the menu in front of him.

“You just need to make nice with Marc until we come up with a way to get rid of his ass the right way,” Glitter said as everyone looked at her like she was crazy.  “If you want to quit, at least go through the proper damn channels first.”

“Like you fucking know what the damn proper channels are,” JT said as he shook his head.

“I know more than your stupid ass does,” Glitter said as she pointed her finger in JT’s face again.  “Maybe if you paid attention to things around us, you would know what the hell I’m talking about.”

“Well clue me into what’s going on ole wise one,” JT said as he put the menu down, giving his full attention to Glitter as she sighed and then shook her head.

“It doesn’t really matter,” Glitter spoke as she turned away from JT.

“Apparently it does matter, since you’re the one that keeps talking about the shit,” JT said as he picked the menu up again as the waitress walked over to their table.

“Hi, what could I start you all off with for drinks?”  The waitress asked.

“Do ya’ll serve wine?”  Mo’ette asked.

“Yes ma’am, we serve wine,” the waitress answered with a smile.

“Red or white?”  Mo’ette inquired.

“We serve both ma’am,” the waitress replied.

“I would like a nice glass of White Zinfandel,” Mo’ette requested, looking at the woman.

“Do you serve alcohol or do I need to go to the bar?”  JT asked, looking at the waitress as Glitter rolled her eyes.  “If I can get it here, without going to the bar, I would like to have a glass of Vodka, any brand, straight up.”

“Okay sir,” the waitress spoke, writing down JT and Mo’ette’s drink order.

“I’ll have a cola,” Nikki replied, looking up at the woman.

“I’ll have water with lime,” Glitter stated, looking over at the woman.

“JT, is your mother going to be joining us?”  Nikki asked, looking over at JT.

“I don’t really know,” JT replied as he flipped the page in the menu.  “I’m sure she can order for herself when she arrives.”

“Touchy much,” Nikki said, shaking her head.  “I’m not her.  You don’t have to be mean to me.”

“I—I’m sorry Nikki,” JT said, looking down as a few tears fell from his eyes.

“It’s okay handsome, just let it go,” Nikki said, rubbing his back.

“I—I think I… I going to go,” JT said, getting up from the table quickly.

“Baby, just sit down and calm your nerves,” Mo’ette said, smiling at JT.  “Things will work out like they’re supposed to baby.”

“Why do you two keep saying that?”  JT asked, looking between Mo’ette and Nikki.  “How do you know how things will turn out?”

“Because we know,” Nikki replied as the waitress returned with their drinks as JT’s mother walked into the room with a concerned look on her face.

“Is there something wrong Vanessa?”  Nikki asked as Vanessa walked over to the table and then sat down in front of JT.

“Does Heather Stewart ring any bells?”  Vanessa asked, looking at JT closely as Justin walked into the room with Josh Charles.

“Hi there, will you be having something to drink?”  The waitress asked.

“Yes, I’ll have a sweet tea please,” Justin answered, smiling weakly at the woman.

“I’ll have the same,” Josh replied as Nikki’s eyes widened.

“Heather Steward?  Yeah, the name rings a bell.  What about her?”  JT asked, looking at Vanessa strangely.

“Heather was on the Mouse with us,” Justin stated, looking at Vanessa as Nikki looked down at the table as a few tears fell from her eyes.

“Have you had any contact with her, recently?”  Vanessa asked, folding her arms across her chest.

“No, why?”  JT asked, looking in Nikki’s direction. “What’s going on here, now?  What does Heather have to do with anything?”

“I can’t say for sure, but I think she has something to do with what’s going on with you right now in the media.  I think you need to get in contact with her and quick,” Vanessa stated.

“Get in contact with her for what?  Why would I want to talk to her?”  JT asked.

“Only she has the answers to that baby,” Vanessa replied as JT shook his head and then made a move to get up from the table.

“I—I’m leaving,” JT stated as he shook his head.

“No JT, don’t… Stay here with the rest of us,” Justin said, pleading with his eyes to JT.

“Justin, I…” JT said as Mo’ette grabbed his other hand as Nikki got up from the table and then walked away.

“Baby, you can’t keep trying to run from life,” Mo’ette said, smiling at JT.  “Sit down and be happy here with the rest of us.”

“Mo’ette, I—I don’t want to have my nerves wrecked by…” JT stated as Glitter glared at him.

“You don’t have to worry about me, I’m done with this circus,” Glitter said as she got up from the table and then walked away also.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” JT said as he shook his head.

“Baby, don’t worry about her; just sit down and…” Mo’ette said as JT sighed and then shook his head as Josh got up from the table and then walked in the direction that Nikki had gone in.

“Why is he here Justin?”  JT asked, looking at Justin strangely.  “Do we need to call security to be on standby?”

“I don’t think we need to do all of that,” Justin said, looking up at JT.  “Don’t worry about them, worry about what’s going on at this table right now.”

“As it seems, nothing’s going on,” JT replied, looking around.  “Everyone has walked away from ‘Mutual Attraction’ but me now.”

“Not really,” Justin said, holding onto JT’s hand as a camera flash went off.

“Oh great, more damn paparazzi,” JT said as Mo’ette grabbed his hand, pulling him down into his seat.

“I told you JT, I’m here for you.  I’m not going to run this time,” Justin said as he rubbed the top of JT’s hand.  “I’m here and I’m ready, if you still want me.”

“No, you can’t have him,” they heard as Cameron walked up behind JT.  “I won’t let you!”

“Have you lost your damn mind?”  JT asked, turning around quickly.  “Didn’t I make myself perfectly clear the other day in New York?  Didn’t you get the fucking hint then?”

“I don’t care about that JT, I love you.  I know I fucked up, but I—I can’t let you go,” Cameron stated as he took JT’s hand into his own.  “Please baby, please…”

“No Cameron, you hurt me and that’s something I can’t forgive,” JT stated as he took his hand from Cameron.

“Hell, he hurt you too and you’re sitting here with him,” Cameron stated, pointing his finger at Justin.

“No Cameron… Stop, just—just go,” JT said as a few tears fell from his eyes as another camera flash went off.  “Damn it!  I—I gotta go!”

“JT… Come on JT, wait!”  Cameron exclaimed as JT ran away from the table, knocking over one of the camera guys as he went.

“Look what you fucking did!”  Justin snapped as he shook his head.  “Didn’t he tell you that he wanted nothing more to do with you?”

“Fuck you Justin Tanner,” Cameron said as he turned away from Justin as Justin shook his head and then hopped up from the chair as he grabbed him by the arm.

“Leave him alone Cameron,” Justin flatly said.  “You hurt him and he’s not ready to deal with you.”

“You hurt him too.  I’m not going to just step to the damn side so you can worm your damn way back into his life again,” Cameron stated as he pointed his finger in Justin’s face.

“You got one more time to stick that fuckin’ finger in my face before I break that mofo off,” Justin said through gritted teeth as he glared at Cameron.  “He told you to leave him alone and that’s what he wants, now leave here, leave him alone.”

“I just told you…” Cameron said as Justin shook his head again and then popped him in the jaw, knocking him down to the floor.  “You fucker!”

“That’s it!”  Justin snapped, jumping on top of Cameron as the two of them rolled around on the floor, hitting at one another.

“What in the world!  Justin, have you lost your mind?”  Mo’ette asked as she and Vanessa tried to break Cameron and Justin apart as more camera flashes went off around the room.

“You two need to cut this shit out, now!”  Vanessa snapped, grabbing Cameron by the back of his shirt and pulling him to one side as Mo’ette did the same thing with Justin.

“We need to go for a walk, right now mister,” Mo’ette said as she pulled Justin out of the room, trying to get him to calm down.

A Few Minutes Previously – Down the Hall

“Nicole, stop!”  Josh yelled, catching up to Nikki as she stopped walking.

“What—what are you doing here?”  Nikki asked, not turning around to face Josh.

“I’m here because of you,” Josh replied as he walked around in front of Nikki, looking her square in the face.

“No Josh, why in the hell are you here?”  Nikki asked again.  “Why are you here right now?”

“I’m here for you Nicole,” Josh stated, placing a finger under her chin and forcing her to look at him.  “Something—something was missing—missing in my life and that’s—that’s you.”

“Oh, so now you feel something’s missing,” Nikki said as she turned away from Josh and continued her trek down the hall.

“Nicole please,” Josh said as he grabbed her hand, stopping her from walking away from him.

“Please what Josh?  Why are you here now?  Where were you when I fucking needed you?  What happened to you when I needed you by my damn side?”  Nikki asked.  “Where were you then Josh?  Where damn it?  Where in the hell were you then?”

“I—I’m sorry,” Josh replied as Nikki’s eyes widened.

“You’re sorry?  Is that all you can fucking say to me, is that you’re sorry?  Really, you’re sorry?”  Nikki asked, shaking her head.

“What do you want me to say Nicole?”  Josh asked.  “I got hurt too.  You weren’t the only one that got hurt back then.”

“How in the hell were you hurt Josh?”  Nikki asked.

“She would’ve been my daughter too,” Josh said as he looked down.  “I—I wanted to be a father.  I wanted to be your husband.  I wanted us to be a fam…”

“Well that didn’t happen, now did it,” Nikki said as she shook her head as the tears fell from her eyes.

“Please Nicole, please don’t cry,” Josh said as he pulled her to him, hugging her to his chest.

“When—when I needed you, you weren’t there,” Nikki said as she cried on his chest.  “You—you just up and left me!”

“I—I’m sorry, I—I just couldn’t handle finding out that you had lost the baby,” Josh said as he sniffled as some tears fell from his eyes. “My intentions weren’t to leave…”

“But you left no less,” Nikki said, sniffling again.

“I know I did Angel, but I’m so sorry,” Josh replied as he rubbed Nikki’s back.

“Sorry doesn’t help Josh, it doesn’t help at all,” Nikki said as she sniffled as JT walked around the corner.

“What’s going on here?”  JT asked, stopping next to Josh and Nikki.

“Nothing,” Nikki replied, pulling away from Josh.  “What’s going on with you?  Are you okay JT?”

“No, not really, but what’s going on here?”  JT asked, looking between Nikki and Josh.  “Is he causing you problems out here?”

“Hey now, wait a minute!”  Josh snapped as JT stepped back quickly.  “I—I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“I—I’m not… I’m not scared,” JT stuttered as Nikki looked at him strangely.  “I’m fine.”

“Okay buddy,” Josh said as JT sighed and then walked away quickly.

“What just happened here?”  Nikki asked, looking at Josh and then in the direction that JT had gone in.

“Your guess is as good as mine,” Josh replied as he looked down quickly as Nikki perked up.

“Why do I get the feeling that you’re lying,” Nikki said as Josh sighed.

“I don’t know,” Josh replied, not meeting Nikki’s eyes.  “Why—why don’t we go somewhere and just talk Nicole about…”

“Maybe, but right now, I’m going to find out what’s going on with my friend,” Nikki stated as she walked in the direction that JT had gone in.
