To Protect and Serve – Chapter 2

Chapter 2 – A Threat Revealed

Aug 5, 1995 – Dallas, TX – Somewhere in a Limo

“Hey driver, I want to get something to eat.  Would you stop at a pizza joint or something, if you see something open?”  Justin asked as the partition went down.

“Disregard that driver, keep going back to the hotel,” Tyler instructed as Justin looked at him with a mean look on his face.

“Man, I’m hungry!  I want something to eat!”  Justin snapped.

“You can get something to eat at the hotel, no stops,” Tyler stated as Justin shook his head.  “We’re going back to the hotel and that’s final.”

“Look man, I want something to eat and I want it now.  Driver, stop at the next place you see that’s open, I don’t care if it’s a burger joint,” Justin spoke to the limo driver.  “Either you stop or you’re fired!”

“Sir, what should I do?”  The limo driver asked as he looked in Tyler’s direction.

“As I stated sir, go directly to the hotel and enter through the parking garage at the back,” Tyler instructed as Justin glared in Tyler’s direction.

“No, I want…” Justin said as Joshua tapped his leg.

“Justin, just give it up, we can get something to eat at the hotel with room service or something,” Joshua stated as he looked at Justin and then over at Tyler, noticing the stern look on his face.

A Few Minutes Previously – At the Hotel

“Jon, how many days does the guys have left here in Dallas?”  JT asked.

“Until next week.  After the concert on Saturday, the guys will have some rest days,” Jon replied as he flipped through some pages on a clipboard.

“With this new development, we may have to leave after the concert and move to a safer location.  With everything that’s happened in the last two hours, I think the guys should rest somewhere else,” JT suggested.

“I don’t know what’s happening, but could you please tell me?  This does involve me, so I would like to know what’s going on around here,” Joey stated as he looked at Jon and then over at JT.

“You have a point, but I want to get all the facts together first, before I let any information out that may not be correct,” JT stated with a frown.  “I will tell you that the person that has been sending you, Justin and Lance all the little love letters and making the phone calls is somewhere here in town and it seems he knows where you guys currently are.”

“What!  He’s here?  What do you mean he’s here?”  Joey asked as he looked around frantically and then covered his mouth.  “We must leave now!  I don’t want to be here anymore!  I don’t want that guy being able to get me or the others!”

“Joey, you can’t leave yet.  You have another concert to perform and that concert is already sold out.  You can’t just up and go,” Jon stated as Joey shook his head while pacing the floor.

“No Jon, we have to get away from here!”  Joey screamed.

“Joey, the concert is happening soon,” Jon stated as Joey glared at him.

“Joey, we can keep all of you in one place and make sure that there is no way for the guy to get in here to you guys, you can have the concert and then we leave and you guys can rest up in another town someplace else,” JT stated, hoping that would calm Joey down.

“Fine, but you guys better protect us and make damn sure nothing happens to any of us,” Joey said as he looked at JT and continued pacing the floor.

Downstairs – The Parking Garage

“Look man, that wasn’t cool, playin’ me in front of the limo driver like that!”  Justin snapped at Tyler.

“Barbara, get him upstairs to Joey’s room before he blows this whole thing out of proportion,” Tyler stated as he finished giving orders to the limo driver and a few other security guards.

“Hey Wanda, can I ask you something?”  Chris asked as he touched Wanda’s hand.

“Sure, what is it?”  Wanda asked as she turned to face Chris.

“What’s going on?  Why did you guys rush us out of the club like that and why wouldn’t Tyler let the driver stop to get us something to eat?”  Chris asked, looking at Wanda strangely.  “Come on Wanda, be honest with me here.”

“To put it plainly, while you guys were in the club tonight, someone took pictures of you guys and sent them back to the hotel.  Whoever took the pictures included a threatening note.  With that happening, JT instructed us to get you guys back here ASAP and not to stop for anything,” Wanda explained as Chris’ eyes widened.

“What!  Someone took pictures of us?  Who and when?  Oh Go, I knew something like this was going to happen!  I told the guys not to go!  I told them I had a bad feeling about this, but they kept pushing about going out!  Damn it!”  Chris yelled as Wanda looked around.

“Alright Chris, I need you to calm down,” Wanda said as she grabbed Chris’ hand, trying to calm him down.  “Why did you have a bad feeling about going out tonight?”

“I—I don’t know.  I can’t explain it.  Tonight’s show wasn’t like any other show,” Chris stated as he looked around frantically.  “We warmed up like we normally do, we did our pre-show routine and even did our prayer, but in the back of my mind, I had this—this feeling that something wasn’t right.”

“Something wasn’t right like what?”  Wanda asked.

“I—I kept seeing this strange guy walk by on side stage,” Chris replied, looking down at his hands as he shook his head.  “Every time I glanced over in that direction of the stage, he was there, watching us, like he was ready to grab one of us or something.”

“Chris…” Wanda started as Chris interrupted her.

“Oh God, what are we going to do Wanda?”  Chris asked, looking around frantically again as the tears streamed down his face.

“Come on Chris, you have to hold it together,” Wanda stated as she held his shoulders.  “Come on, tell me more.  Did you recognize the guy?  Was he part of the crew?  What made you think something was wrong with him being around?  What made you think this guy was out of place?”

“The guy was wearing all black and nothing else really.  I could barely see his eyes through the fabric around his face,” Chris stated as Wanda’s eyes widened this time.

“Chris, why didn’t you tell us this information sooner?  If we had known about this, we wouldn’t have allowed you guys to have gone out tonight.  You guys would’ve been on lockdown for the rest of the night,” Wanda stated as she pulled Chris close to her and then looked around as she and Chris stepped onto the elevator with the others.

“What’s up Wanda, you seem like you’ve seen a ghost or something.  What’s the matter?”  Tyler asked with a raised brow.

“Chris just informed me that he saw a strange person at the show tonight.  He said that it seemed like the person was watching them while they performed.  He said the guy didn’t look like he was part of the crew or security, he was just a stranger among them,” Wanda stated as she shook her head.  “He was dressed in all black, like the omen.”

“Oh gosh!  What was that noise?”  Chris asked, looking around the elevator.

‘JT, can you hear me?  JT, what’s going on buddy?  What was that noise?  Is there something wrong?’  Wanda mentally spoke, hoping JT heard her thoughts telepathically.

“Uh oh, that noise can only mean one thing,” Barbara said as she looked over at Tyler and then at Wanda.

“Yeah, it seems like the boss has a problem on his hand.  I hope it’s nothing too big for him to handle by himself,” Wanda whispered to Tyler and Barbara.

“What’s going on guys, what’s that noise?  That’s kind of loud and I’m beginning to get a big headache here!”  Justin snapped as he looked up at the elevator ceiling.

‘Everyone, I hope you hear me.  I’ve encountered the guy that’s partially behind all of this.  His name is Ken Polanski, he calls himself Poltergeist.  As I was outside of the room, waiting for you guys to show up, he appeared in the hallway.  It’s apparent that he can pass through solid objects and he can teleport.  Be on the lookout, he’s wearing all black,’ JT telepathically spoke to Barbara, Tyler and Wanda.

“Okay, we need to do something else.  It seems the boss man is up there on your guys’ floor with the guy that’ trying to get to you all.  Wanda, can you do us the honors of getting us out of this elevator and putting us… oh, like in Joey’s room?”  Tyler asked as Joshua looked at him strangely.

“Wait a minute, how do you know what JT is doing and how do you expect her to get us out of here and into Joey’s room?”  Joshua asked, looking at Tyler strangely.

“Oh the wonders of magic my dear,” Wanda responded as her image changed to that of a female-like cat that stood upright on hind legs as her eyes glowed an eerie yellow color.

“What in the hell is going on here?  What happened to Wanda?”  Chris asked, moving away from Wanda quickly as the area around all of them was enveloped in a gold-colored light.

“We’re outta here!”  Wanda yelled as the six of them disappeared.

An Instant Later – Joey’s Hotel Room

“Perfect, just in time for a good whooping!  I’ll help JT, you two get the boys out of Joey’s room and get them someplace safe in the hotel,” Wanda spoke as she walked out of Joey’s room to join JT in apprehending the guy named Poltergeist.

“What in the hell just happened?  How did we get out of the damn elevator and into this damn room?  What happened to Wanda?  Why does she look and sound like a damn cat?  What is all that damn noise in the hallway?”  Justin asked as Barbara and Tyler shook their heads at each other.

“Okay, I knew this was going to happen at some point, but I didn’t know it was going to happen so soon,” Barbara stated with a scared expression on her face.

“Well there you are, I’ve been looking for you all night.  Why have you been hiding from me?”  Poltergeist asked, appearing in the room in front of Justin and Lance.

“Stay away from them Poltergeist or I’ll fry your brains!  I’m warning you damn it, don’t you dare take another step!  I have no qualms about using my psychic powers against you.  I’ll slice through your mind and turn you into a veggie if possible!”  JT snapped as he stood in the doorway to the room.

“What in the hell is going on?  Did we somehow fall asleep and wake up in a bad super hero movie?”  Joey asked, looking around the room.

“What is that glowing thing in JT’s hand?”  Joshua asked, watching the guy and JT.

“It doesn’t seem like those questions are going to end any time soon.  Thanks a lot Wanda,” Tyler said with a sigh.

“What is that glowing thing in JT’s hand?”  Joshua asked again.

“That thing is JT’s psychic sword,” Barbara answered as she looked at Joshua.  “With that, he can cut through just about anything.”

“That’s a psychic sword?  Are you saying that thing comes from his mind?”  Joshua asked.

“Yes, JT’s a very powerful psychic,” Tyler stated as JT glared in his direction.

“I came here to get Justin and Lance.  I’m going to get them, even if I have to kill all of you here to do so.  Now get the hell out of my way Psychic Warrior or else!”  Poltergeist yelled, bringing the attention back to him.

“I warned you, but I guess I’ll have to show you instead.  Now Wanda!”  JT yelled as everything in the room was enveloped in a gold-colored light as the ‘All Star’ guys disappeared.

“No!  What happened to them?  Where did they go?  You better answer me or I’ll cause you the greatest pain imaginable!”  Poltergeist yelled.

“They’re gone, gone far far away from here and you’ll never find them.  I suggest you give up and leave them alone,” JT replied as his eyes glowed an eerie purple color.

“Why?  Why did you take away the only person I truly loved?  You don’t know how much I love Justin and you don’t know how much Lance is loved either.  Bring them back, please bring them back to…” Poltergeist begged as he dropped to his knees, taking off his mask as his tears fell to the floor.

‘JT, we’re in a different part of the hotel and everyone is safe.  How are things going with the baddie?’  Wanda mentally asked as JT picked up on her thoughts, his eyes still glowing the eerie purple color.

‘I’m glad you guys are safe, but this guy is acting a bit strange right now.  He’s showing a lot of signs of social… you know what, he’s just being a stalker and it’s not funny,’ JT telepathically spoke as he kept his eyes on Poltergeist.  ‘I see our biggest problem would be how to clear things up with the guys of All Star, since it seems a few secrets have been blown.’

‘Yes, a few secrets have been blown here tonight,’ Wanda thought as she looked around, allowing JT to see through her eyes, witnessing the state of the guys of All Star.

“Look, I can’t bring them back,” JT stated as Poltergeist raised his head and then stood up.  “I didn’t take them anywhere…”

“No!  You took them away from me!”  Poltergeist screamed.

“No, you stalked those guys for way too long.  Why should they want to be here, around you of all people?  If you love someone, you don’t harass them and try to kill them by using your powers against them and scaring the hell out of them!”  JT snapped.

“I haven’t harassed anyone!”  Poltergeist yelled.  “I love Justin, I’ve always loved him.  There’s nothing you can do to keep me from finding him again!”

“That’s where you’re wrong,” JT stated as he vanished and then reappeared in front of Poltergeist, grabbing him by his head as his eyes glowed brighter as Poltergeist screamed out.  “Where are the other people that have been helping you?  I know you’re not alone in this.  I know there are others helping you, but it seems your mind is shielding those people from my psychic probing.  How can that be?”

“No!  Get out of my head you freak!  Stop you’re violating my personal space!  Get out of my head!”  Poltergeist screamed as JT stabbed him through the head with his psychic sword.

“Not until I find what I’m looking for.  Yes, finally.  So tell me about Mitchell and Steve.  It seems Mitchell is the reason why you’re able to locate the guys so quickly.  You have a psychic working with you too.  I see now that we have a lot of things to look out for,” JT stated as he removed his psychic sword from Poltergeist’s head as his eyes stopped glowing.

“You’re still here!”  Wanda growled, walking into the room with JT and Poltergeist.

“Wanda no, don’t do anything, he’s going to…” JT trailed off as Poltergeist disappeared.

“What just happened, where did he go?”  Wanda asked as she looked around.

“He’s a teleporter Wanda.  You broke my concentration, giving him the opportunity to get away,” JT stated as she sighed.  “Thanks a lot Wanda.”

“I’m sorry,” Wanda replied with a frown as her image shifted to reveal her normal appearance.  “I came back to check on you and to let you know that the others are still safe.  With all that’s happened, I think you might need to wipe some memories or this may get a little confusing to the guys.”

“We need to get to them fast,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “Poltergeist is working with three other guys and let’s just say that they’re just as powerful as we are.  Another problem we have is that Malik’s brother is one of the guys he’s working with.  We need to get to the others fast, before they’ve had time to strike again.”

“Let’s go,” Wanda said as she and JT faded away from the room.

An Instant Later – A Conference Room in the Hotel

“Are you guys okay?  Is anyone hurt?”  JT asked as he and Wanda walked into the room.

“We’re okay, a little shocked, but okay.  Is that guy gone?”  Lance asked as he walked over to JT.

“For now, he’s gone, but I fear he will return.  Where is Jon?”  JT asked as he looked around the room. “Isn’t he here?”

“Jon fainted when he saw all the freaky shit in Joey’s room, so he’s sleeping it off in his own room,” Chris stated.

‘Maybe you’re right Wanda.  Maybe I do need to erase their memories of what happened.  If it affected Jon that way, it’s best that they don’t remember things.  How have the other guys been acting since this started?’  JT telepathically asked Wanda.

‘Well Joshua, Chris and Lance have been sitting quietly, Justin has been pacing the room and Joey has been asking questions about your powers non-stop.  The guy has been going a mile a minute, asking all kinds of questions about you,’ Wanda thought.

“Hi JT, may I talk to you for a bit?  I—I would like to ask you some questions, if that’s okay with you,” Joey said as he walked over to where JT stood with Wanda.

“Ah yeah, I guess you can.  What’s up Joey?”  JT asked as he sat down in a chair as Joey sat across from him.

“Can you tell me about your powers?  I would like to know about what it is that you can do, since you’re my bodyguard and all.  I would like to know what you have to protect me,” Joey stated as he looked at JT closely.

“Well I don’t know how to answer that question,” JT stated as he looked at Wanda and then back at Joey.  “Joey, look into my eyes… tell me what it is that you see there…”

“Well, I see… I see nothing.  What am I supposed to be seeing?”  Joey asked as he looked at JT strangely, closed his eyes and then was fast asleep.

‘JT, you didn’t do what I think you did, did you?’  Wanda mentally asked as the ‘All Star’ guys suddenly went to sleep.

“Yes I did Wanda.  They won’t remember any of this in the morning.  They’ll think this was all just a dream.  Right now, we need to get them into their new rooms that the hotel has set up for us.  Once we get settled in the new rooms, we can get things going from there,” JT stated as he looked around.

“I hope you’re right JT,” Tyler stated as he looked over at Joshua and Justin.

“Right now, we have a bigger problem to deal with.  Wanda, let’s teleport everyone into the new rooms and once we’re done, we’ll have a small meeting in the hallway,” JT softly spoke, not trying to wake anyone up.

“So, you erased their memories of this event.  Are you going to keep erasing their memories of things happening each time Poltergeist shows up?”  Barbara asked.

“No, but hopefully the next time this happens, we would’ve had time to gently tell the guys about us and not have them thrust into this the way they were tonight,” JT stated as he turned around.  “They were thrust into the middle of a fight and I don’t think they should find out about us like that.”

“Are we going to get things started or what?”  Hank asked, looking over at JT.

“Fine, let’s get this plan into motion,” Tyler stated as he averted his eyes from JT.  “Oh and JT, would you please put your normal clothes back on?  Seeing you in that costume really scares me sometimes.”

“Ah okay,” JT replied as his eyes sparkled with energy as his clothing started to change.

Half Hour Later – The Hallway Outside of Joey’s New Hotel Room

“Okay, this is what I know about these guys so far.  First, Poltergeist is a guy named Ken Polanski, the son of the owner of TellStar Enterprises, John Polanski,” JT stated with a frown.

“Wait a minute JT,” Tyler stated as he shook his head.  “Isn’t TellStar Enterprises that corporation front that was using super humans to run drugs across the country and back that we stopped last year?  Isn’t that when we first met Malik?”

“Yes and Malik’s brother is involved in this mess also.  Mitchell is helping Ken and his friends.  For some strange reason, it seems that this Ken guy is really in love with Justin and well—well Mitchell seems to be in love with Lance.  While I was searching through Ken’s mind, I saw all sorts of images of all the things that he and Mitchell had been doing and I don’t really know where to start there.  I think this is going to get really ugly,” JT explained as he shook his head.  “There is also this guy named Steve.  He’s an ani-morph like Wanda.  He can transform into a wolf.  From the other images in Ken’s mind, Steve doesn’t have any other powers, but I know in his wolf form, he’s dangerous and he’s not scared to kill.”

“I don’t seem to understand all that’s going on.  Why is Mitchell involved in this?  The last time any of us saw him, he was powerless, had found religion and had abandoned his homosexual ways,” Barbara stated with a frown.

“I don’t know what happened since we last saw him, but from the images I pulled from Ken’s mind, they all have one common goal in mind.  They all want the person they set out to get.  Ken wants Justin, Mitchell wants Lance and Steve wants Joey.  So far, all three are doing what they can to make that a reality,” JT stated, waving his hand as a strange phenomenon appeared as he reached into it and pulled a package out.

“I have a question,” Tyler stated as he looked around.  “I know this is something we should be asking the guys, but are any of them actually gay?”

“That’s something I don’t know.  I haven’t proved any of their minds yet.  I just wiped away the last eight hours of the night,” JT stated as Wanda and Barbara raised an eye at him.  “Really, I didn’t sift through any of their minds.  I don’t know officially, but I think Lance is.”

“You really think Lance is?”  Hank asked with a dreamy look in his eyes.

“I don’t really know.  I know for a fact that Justin isn’t,” JT stated as he looked down.  “Justin’s involved with Veronica Knight and from what I’ve heard through the grapevine around with this company, Jon has his hands full, dealing with keeping the both of them in line.”

“Yeah, I’ve seen the tabloid spreads about those two,” Barbara stated with a frown.  “What about Joey and Joshua?”

“I don’t know about Joey yet.  We haven’t been able to actually sit down and get to know each other yet, since everything happened so quickly tonight,” JT stated as he opened the package.  “This is some pictures that were taken at the gate tonight at the concert.  The pictures show that Steve, Mitchell, Ken and this fellow here were at the concert.  I don’t know who the fourth guy is, but he seemed to stay in the same area as the other three.”

“I recognize this guy; he was with Poltergeist in line when I saw him at the entrance gate tonight.  When I grabbed Poltergeist and called for security, I saw something strange about him, but I didn’t let it sink in at the moment,” Barbara stated.

“So, he’s been around too.  I guess we have to keep an eye open for him too, whoever he is,” Tyler said as he shook his head.

“What’s wrong Hank?  You haven’t said much of anything most of the night.  Are you okay?”  Wanda asked.

“I don’t know, I kinda feel sad and—and afraid.  Tonight, when JT came back to Joey’s room, Lance looked at him with a scared and hateful look on his face as though he was looking at something evil or something he couldn’t stand to be around.  Then as things progressed, Lance seemed to become a little stand-offish, like he didn’t want to be around any of us,” Hank stated as a tear rolled down his cheek.

“Everything is going to be okay Hank, trust me it will be.  I know how you feel about Lance, we all do.  If Lance was scared of you being a super human, then tomorrow, he won’t be.  You’ll have a clean slate to work from in the morning.  Lance will not know your secret, unless you tell him or something else happens like tonight,” Wanda stated.

“That’s true.  In the morning, everything will be back to normal.  The only thing the guys should remember is meeting us, picking out who they wanted for a bodyguard and they’ll have the feelings of a hangover when they wake up.  I gave them all a hypnotic suggestion that will have them believing that they went out and got drunk and have very bad hangovers,” JT stated with a small laugh.

“Hangovers?  They have a concert tomorrow night, they can’t have hangovers,” Hank stated as he shook his head.

“They’re not real hangovers, just the ones I telepathically created.  Their minds will think they had been drinking last night, but their bodies won’t have the real effects of the alcohol, none-what-so-ever,” JT stated as he grabbed the keycard to enter Joey’s room.  “Good night guys, I’ll talk with you all in the morning after breakfast.”

“Later,” Tyler, Wanda and Barbara said as they turned and headed to their rooms.

The Awakening – Chapter 4

Chapter 4 — Love On A One-Way Street

Day 17 — Bensonhurst, NY — The Home of Darren and Tara James — The Backyard

“Why are you acting this way JT?”  Tara asked as she looked over at JT.

“Things are totally different now,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “This isn’t like it was when we were kids, trying to be super heroes, trying to make a difference in the world or for our sake, Georgia of all places.  The government is trying to capture and kill super enhanced humans.  If Ranger gets his way, he’ll collect us, catalogue us and then dissect us.”

“Please JT,” Tara said as she shook her head.

“No Tara, I was in his head,” JT stated as his eyes flared with psychic energy.  “I saw what he wanted to do with people like us.  He doesn’t like people like us.”

“Why?”  Tara asked.

“Who knows why girl,” JT replied as he looked down.  “It could probably be because one of his children is like us and that child caused the death of someone close to him.”

“That’s not a reason for him to hate and want to kill the rest of us,” Tara stated as she touched JT’s hand.

“The world is filled with hatred, the reason I tend to stay in Limbo, away from all the madness, as much as possible,” JT stated as the door to the house opened as Jennifer, Darren and Brian walked outside.

“You can’t stay in Limbo and you know that,” Tara stated as she looked up as Darren sat down next to her.

“Hello Love,” Darren spoke as he kissed Tara on the cheek as Brian sat down next to JT.

“Hey buddy,” Brian spoke as he patted JT on the back as JT looked at him with a raised brow.  “How are you feeling today?”

“I’m fine,” JT replied as he moved a bit, putting some space in between himself and Brian as the young man looked down with a frown on his face.

‘JT, behave yourself.  That young man likes you and I’m sure you know it already,’ Tara mentally spoke to JT as she watched JT and Brian.  ‘He’s just like you, he’s lonely and he’s trying to reach…’

“No Tara, I’m not going down that road,” JT spoke as Darren, Brian and Jennifer looked at him as if he were crazy.  “Can’t do it, won’t do it.”

“Go down what road?  Can’t do what JT?”  Darren asked as he looked at JT strangely.  “Are you okay buddy?”

“I’m fine!”  JT snapped, his voice sending seismic shockwaves throughout the air, scattering some birds from the trees nearby as he got up from the table, sighed and then walked away.

“That’s right; he’s psychic and can speak telepathically.  Were you two speaking telepathically Love?”  Darren asked as he looked over at Tara as she nodded her head.  “That’s so cool.”

“Sometimes,” Tara replied as she got up from the table to go in search of JT.

A Few Miles Away — A Local Park

“Are you okay?” Jennifer asked as she walked up behind JT as he sat on a bench in the park, looking as if he was lost in thought.

“I’m fine,” JT replied as he sighed and then looked up at Jennifer.  “I wish you guys would stop asking me that damn question.”

“We’ll stop asking that question when you tell us what’s really going on with you,” Tara spoke as she landed in front of JT as he stood up quickly, looking around to see if anyone had seen Tara’s landing.

“Are you out of your damn mind woman?  You—you can’t be doing that out in the open like that,” JT stated as he pointed his finger at Tara as she just watched him.  “We don’t need anyone calling the police about what they saw and we sure as hell don’t need any damn scientists coming to grab you, to haul you off to some damn lab to experiment on you!”

“Believe me, no one is going to bother me, I’m Amazon, the embodiment of your definition of Wonder Woman, remember that?”  Tara asked as she looked at JT closely.  “Regardless, if someone came, I have the powers needed to handle whatever they can possibly throw at me, thanks to you.”

“Yeah, all thanks to me,” JT spoke as he shook his head and then looked down again.  “Do—do you ever regret what I did to you Tara?”

“No JT, why would I?”  Tara asked as she looked at him strangely.  “What’s going on with you man?  You aren’t acting like yourself.  The JT I know would’ve been trying to figure out how to get up in Ranger’s ass, stopping him from causing problems and how to get to that young man and others that he’s holding prisoner—not sitting here in the damn park, second guessing the past.”

“I’m not second guessing the past Tara,” JT stated as he looked around quickly as his eyes flared with psychic energy.  “Oh no, we have trouble.”

“What kind of trouble do we have?”  Tara asked as Jennifer turned around, her yes sparkling with energy.

“It seems Brian has attracted some unneeded attention and has a following,” JT stated as his eyes continued to flare with psychic energy as he held out his hand as a ribbon-like energy enveloped his body, altering his clothing.

“All right, let’s do this,” Jennifer stated as her body shimmered with energy, her image changing as she floated into the air.

“No Jennifer, this isn’t Ranger and his men, this is the city’s police department,” JT stated as he waved his hand as his clothing changed back to normal as Brian appeared in front of him, kissed his lips and then took off running.  “What in the hell!  He—he kissed me!”

“Yeah, he kissed you JT, we saw that,” Jennifer spoke as she folded her arms across her chest and then shook her head.

“See J, I told you that young man likes you,” Tara stated with a small smile on her face.  “The boy created a fuss with the police just so he could break the speed limit to kiss you the way he did.”

“No Tara, he created unnecessary trouble that we don’t need right now,” JT stated as a few police cars whizzed by the park.

“You know they have no chance of actually catching him,” Tara stated as JT glared at her and then shook his head.

“That’s not the point Tara.  That thing he just did wasn’t called for,” JT stated as he sighed and then looked around.

“You’re right JT, it wasn’t called for, but the boy has been dropping hints around you, since he’s been around you, but you—you’re too closed off to notice anything,” Tara stated as JT looked at her strangely.  “Don’t look at me like that.  I can’t help it if you can’t seem to handle the truth.”

“I’ll let you know when I hear the truth,” JT stated as Jennifer shook her head.

“For a psychic, you sure are clueless at times,” Jennifer stated as she turned around and then threw her hands up.  “If it’s okay with you two, I’m heading back to her place.”

“That’s perfectly fine with me,” Tara stated with a smile as she shook her head.  “So you’ve been kissed.  Now what are you going to do about it?”

“I don’t have time to be thinking about some damn boy that kissed me Tara!”  JT snapped as some birds scattered from the surrounding trees near them as Tara sighed.

“We have plenty of time JT,” Tara stated in a calm, serene voice.

“No Tara, we have to find a place to go, so we don’t have to keep worrying about trouble.  We can’t just keep hiding out at your place.  Sooner or later, we’re going to have a problem we can’t fix with my psychic powers or m magic.  I can’t keep using my powers to shield us the way I have been.”

“No one said you had to shield us JT,” Tara stated as she looked at him strangely.  “Besides, using your powers that way shouldn’t be such a bother to you, it…”

“No Tara, I’m not the same powerhouse I used to be,” JT stated as his hands shimmered with energy.

“What are you trying to tell me here JT?”  Tara asked as she looked at him closely.

“I’m telling you that my telepathy, telekinesis, probability altering and my magic is about all that’s working with me now-a-days,” JT stated with a sigh.

“You’re joking, right JT?”  Tara said as she moved around to stand in front of JT.

“No, I’m not joking with you Tara,” JT replied with a frown.  “The totality of power I’ve been using is my telepathy and telekinesis.”

“Come on JT, you must be kidding here.  What about your morphing power—isn’t it working?”  Tara asked as she sat down on the park bench as JT shrugged his shoulders.  “Come on JT, you have to know if your powers are working or not.  Have you forgotten how to use your powers or something?”

“No, I haven’t forgotten how to use my powers Tara,” JT stated as he shook his head and then looked over at her with a mean look on his face.  “It’s not a matter of knowing how to use my powers, it’s a matter of the power not being there for me to use!”

“Don’t snap at me man,” Tara spoke as she looked at JT sternly.  “How long have you know this JT?”

“Since this caper started,” JT replied as he sighed and then looked down at his hands.  “Since I hadn’t been using my powers on a regular basis, I guess the power just dissolved or…”

“Power just doesn’t up and ‘dissolve’ man,” Tara stated as she stood up.  “I’m sure if you really cut loose with your powers, things would fall into place.”

“I don’t think that’s the case here Tara,” JT stated with a frown on his face.  “Ranger and his damn military men were able to get me and that was a feat that even Calamity or Fatality could easily do.”

“Meaning what JT?”  Tara asked.

“Meaning that those creeps were the strongest we ever went up against,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “Ranger and his men are normal human beings and they were able to get me down with damn bullets Tara.  They took me down with bullets damn it!”

“Calm down JT.  I still believe there is a reason for that happening,” Tara stated as she walked over to where JT stood.  “There had to be power dampening technology or something around blocking your powers for where you were being held.”

“That’s impossible Tara!  Those dampening fields didn’t affect you or Darren,” JT stated as he shook his head.

“Come on JT, how are we supposed to know if I was affected or not?  I didn’t use my powers; Darren used a magical spell to transport us to you and a spell to get us out of there.  So, in actuality, there’s really no proof of what happened that day at the base.  I think you’re limiting yourself mentally because you think there’s something wrong with your powers,” Tara explained as JT turned and looked at her.  “Yeah, that’s what I said JT, now prove me wrong or keep on doing what you’re doing and prove me right.”

“Tara… Fine then,” JT said as he waved his hand as a portal appeared as he looked at her a final time and then stepped through it, disappearing.

“What the hell!  Where in the hell did he go?  Oh, when I get my hands on him, I’m going to beat him like he owes me for back child support,” Tara stated as she shook her head and then jumped into the air, taking flight, heading to her home.

Half An Hour Later — The Home of Darren and Tara James — The Family Room

“Hi Tara,” Brian spoke as Tara walked into the room.

“Hi Brian,” Tara spoke as Brian moved over to where she stood.  “What’re you doing?”

“Did JT come back here with you?”  Brian asked as Tara looked down with a frown on her face.

“No, he’s not with me,” Tara replied as Brian looked down with a frown on his face.

“Where is he?  Did—did he leave?  Is—is he mad?”  Brian asked as Tara looked at him and then down at the floor.  “Where is he?  Do you know where he is?”

“I don’t know where he is right now Brian,” Tara replied as Brian shook his head quickly and then rushed out of the room, shattering the front door on his exit from the house.  “What the hell!  He—he shattered my damn front door!  That boy must be out of his damn mind!”

“What’s going on in here?”  Darren asked as he looked at Tara as he appeared in the room.  “Darlin’, I think you have some ‘plaining to do.”

“I didn’t do that Darren,” Tara stated as she shook her head and then folded her arms across her chest as she walked out of the room quickly as Darren frowned and then followed behind her.

“Baby,” Darren stated as he caught up to her.  “So, you didn’t do it, then who did?”

“Brian did it,” Tara answered as Darren just looked at her strangely.  “When I told him I didn’t know where JT was, he flipped out and ran through the damn door, without opening it as you can see.”

“So it’s true then… Brian’s smitten with your best friend,” Darren stated with a smile as Tara looked at him.

“Doesn’t mean he had to smash the door that way,” Tara stated as there was a loud crash.  “What in the hell was that?  If that was Brian again, I’m going to beat his ass!”

“Ah baby, I—I don’t think it’s Brian,” Darren stated as he pointed at a strange phenomenon in the room.  “What in the hell is that?”

“I have the slightest idea,” Tara replied as she moved closer to the phenomenon, reaching out with her hand, but then stopped as she grabbed her lasso and twirled it around as she tossed it at the phenomenon as one end of her lasso disappeared into the void of the phenomenon as she walked around it, looking for the end of her lasso to come out on the other side, but it did not.  “It must be a portal of some kind, it must lead to some place else.”

“I wonder where it leads to,” Darren stated as he looked on as Tara shook her head.

“JT!”  Tara yelled as Darren looked at her strangely.  “JT—JT, is that you?  Is this your doing?”

“I wasn’t aware that JT could create portals with his psychic powers,” Darren stated.

“You’d be surprised at what JT can do.  He can do just about anything,” Tara stated as there was another loud crash as Brian appeared next to Darren.

“Did someone say JT?”  Brian asked as he looked around the room.  “Does that lead to where he is?”

“Hello again Brian,” Tara spoke as she looked at Brian with a mean look on her face as she pulled her lasso back to her.  “I don’t think this leads to JT.   I don’t like the looks of this thing.  Being that my lasso came back in one piece, maybe it’s safe to travel through, but I don’t really know.”

“I don’t think we should Dar…” Darren spoke as Brian interrupted him.

“Maybe we should go investigate,” Brian suggested as he looked over at Tara.

“I don’t think we should,” Darren stated with a frown as he looked over at Brian.

“He’s right, maybe we should go investigate,” Tara stated with a smile.

“Darlin, are you kidding?  You want us to go into that thing?  We don’t even know what it is.  Hell, if it is a portal, we don’t know where it leads.  We could die,” Darren stated as he looked over at Tara.  “You want us to go in there?”

“Yes, I think we should… I think it’s safe.  We’ll go, once Jennifer comes down here.  I think we should all go and see what’s up,” Tara stated as she looked over at Darren.  “Whatever’s on the other side, I think it would be best if we used our code names while communicating with each other.”

“I don’t have a codename yet,” Brian spoke as he looked down with a frown on his face.

“What do you want your codename to be Brian?”  Tara asked as she looked over at him.

“I don’t know,” Brian replied as he rubbed the side of his head.

“What do you think would be suitable to your ability to run fast?”  Tara asked.

“I—I like the name Chase,” Brian replied with a smile as he looked over at Tara.  “So, are we going to wait for JT to come back, before we go through this thing here?”

“I don’t think we should wait.  I believe we need to go right now.  We can’t wait for JT to get back, being that I have no idea where he went.  I’m getting a strange vibe from this thing and I would like to know why,” Tara stated as she took Darren’s hand.  “I think it’s time for Amazon and Conjurer to get to work.  What do you think about that honey?”

“That—that’s what that man called me, while we were fighting with those military goons,” Darren stated as he looked at Tara strangely.

“I think the name fits good on you, it’s what you’re good at doing handsome,” Tara stated with a smile as she leaned in and kissed Darren’s lips as Brian looked down with a frown on his face.

“ Hi guys, someone’s in danger!”  JT exclaimed as he appeared in a flash of light with fire and energy flaring around his body.

“JT!”  Brian yelled as JT turned and looked at him strangely.  “I’m so happy to see you again.”

“What’s going on JT?”  Tara asked as she moved over to where JT floated.

“Someone’s in danger and they need our help, quickly,” JT stated as he looked at the phenomenon, waved his hand at it and then jumped through it, disappearing as Tara looked at Darren and Brian as she shrugged her shoulders and then jumped through the phenomenon also as Brian and Darren followed behind her.

Someplace in Minnesota

“JT, stop!  Where in the hell are we?”  Tara asked as she appeared next to JT as he was preparing to float away.

“I—I can’t pinpoint where we are exactly, but I can sense that there’s danger all around us,” JT stated as his eyes flared with psychic energy.  “Ranger and his men are already here and are nearby.”

“That fowl creature is here too?”  Tara asked, looking over at JT as he nodded his head and then floated into the air.

“Don’t forget his so-called henchmen and their nifty weapons,” JT stated as Tara shook her head.

“Why are they here JT?  I thought you erased his memories of…” Tara stated as JT floated down to the ground and then raised his hands quickly, using his powers to erect a field in front of them as a loud noise was heard, followed by a bright light as JT turned his head, shielding his eyes.  “What in the hell just happened?”

“Is everyone okay?”  JT asked as he opened his eyes, looking around at his comrades.  “Brian, are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine JT,” Brian replied with a dreamy look on his face.

“Ah Darren, where’s Darren?”  JT asked as he looked around for the man.

“He’s right here,” Tara replied as JT looked at her strangely as she pointed at her shoulder.

“Excuse me,” JT said as Tara smiled and then shook her head as there was a shimmering light that moved from her shoulder to the side of her as Darren appeared next to her, growing to his normal size.  “So, I take it that you enjoy shrinking down to size.”

“It helps when I want to be close to my beautiful wife,” Darren replied as JT shook his head as his eyes flared with psychic energy again.

“The reason we’re here is nearby,” JT stated as he shook his head.

“Was that your portal that brought us here JT?”  Tara asked as she looked around and then back to JT.  “How did we get here anyway?”

“It wasn’t my portal, but I have a feeling that the person we’re here to find has the power to teleport or to create portals,” JT spoke as he shook his head again.  “Be on your guard, Ranger and his men are approaching.”

“Back to the subject at hand JT,” Tara stated as she looked at JT strangely.  “Why is he and his soldiers here?  Besides, I thought you erased his memories and all that jazz.”

“I erased his memories of us,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “Apparently, I should’ve erased his knowledge of super enhanced humans and such.”

“Maybe you should have,” Tara stated as there was a bright light displayed on all of them as she held up her arm, trying to shield her eyes.

“Halt!  You are under the arrest by the United States Government!  Stop where you are and don’t make any sudden moves!”  Someone yelled as JT looked at Tara and then shook his head as he waved and then flew into the air as Darren disappeared from view as Tara flew into the air also.

“Hey, you guys left me!”  Brian yelled as he took off running as a soldier came into view, throwing a net-like material at him, but missed.  “Sorry guy, you can’t nab me that easily!”

“Stop!”  JT screamed as he landed in front of the soldier that tried to nab Brian as his eyes glowed brightly.  “You will tell me what you’re doing here.”

“I… I… I’m here to find a woman.  I’m here to find a woman named—named Helia Stroyer,” the soldier replied as his eyes sparkled with energy that matched the color of the psychic energy that flared around JT’s eyes.

“Why are you here to find this Helia Stroyer?”  JT asked as the soldier moved his arm, trying to reach for JT, but his hand stopped.  “Why are you here, trying to find this Helia Stroyer?”

“She… She… She…” The soldier stuttered as JT shook his head.

“Why are you here to get this Helia Stroyer woman?”  JT asked again, his eyes flaring brighter with psychic energy.

“She… She’s a super enhanced human that—that—that escaped custody.  I… I… I have… I have… I have….” the soldier stuttered as JT’s eyes flared brighter.  “She escaped General Ranger and he wants her back.”

“General Ranger wants her back for what?”  JT asked as the soldier reached his hand out, grabbing JT’s arm, trying to pull JT closer to him.  “What in the hell is wrong with this guy?  He’s resisting me.”

“That would be my doing,” JT heard behind his back as he turned around to see General Ranger.  “Hello again, did you think you were rid of me?”

“What in the hell are you doing here?”  JT asked as he looked at General Ranger strangely as the soldier fell to his knees.

“You heard what he said,” General Ranger replied with a sly smile on his face.  “I’m here to get what escaped me and then I’ll be on my merry little way.”

“Sorry, you can’t get what escaped you,” JT stated as he floated closer to General Ranger.  “I escaped you and you’re not going to get me.  I’m not going to allow you to do your so-called experiments on any more people.”

“Is that so freak?  How do you plan on stopping me?”  General Ranger asked, smiling evilly.  “You already tried to erase my mind and guess what; I’m still here to haunt you.  So you lose Malevolent.”

“Sorry General, but I don’t lose!”  JT snapped as a bolt of lightning struck the spot where General Ranger stood, knocking JT in one direction and General Ranger in the other.

“Oh my God!”  Brian screamed as he rushed to the spot where JT landed.  “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, just a little bit burnt, but I’ll be okay,” JT replied as he held his hand up, just in time, using his powers to deflect the gunfire from General Ranger’s soldiers.

“I’ll protect you!”  Brian screamed as he moved quickly, knocking the guns from the hands of all of the soldiers and then returning to JT’s side before JT could move to get off the ground.  “Let me help you up.”

“I said I was fine,” JT stated as he looked at the soldiers that lie on the ground as he looked back at Brian and then back at the soldiers on the ground.

“I’m not going to let those guys hurt you, while I’m around to keep you protected,” Brian stated with a small smile.  “As long as Chase lives, I’ll protect you.”

“Thank you, but I’m capable of protecting myself,” JT stated as he turned around just in time to see Tara use her lasso to grab another man, stopping him from grabbing JT or Brian.  “What in the hell!  I—I didn’t even sense that creep!”

“Keep your mind in the game Malevolent!”  Tara screamed as she twirled her lasso, throwing the guy into a tree.  “Conjurer, make your move!”

“Conjurer?”  JT said as he looked at Tara as Brian grabbed JT’s hand, moving quickly, getting the two of them from that spot.  “What in the hell is going on?”

“I don’t know, but I don’t want you getting hurt,” Brian replied as he stopped running as JT shoved him away and then snapped his fingers, disappearing.  “Why is he pushing me away?”

“I won’t push you away,” Brian heard as he turned around to see a strange guy standing near.

“Who are you?”  Brian asked as the man stepped closer, reaching his hand out to touch his face.

“I’m what you want and need,” the man replied as Brian stepped backwards, avoiding another touch from the man.

“What in the hell is going on here?”  Brian asked as he took off running, bumping into an invisible barrier that knocked him down to the ground.  “Owww!  That hurt like hell!”

“Where do you think you’re going?”  The man asked as he stepped closer to Brian.

“Don’t come near me man!”  Brian screamed as the man reached out to touch him again as Brian screamed out, sounding as if he were in agony as he started punching the man, his hands moving at super speed, hitting the man over and over again as he knocked the man backwards to the ground.  “I told you not to touch me!”

“Chase, are you okay?”  Darren asked as he grew to his normal size, appearing next to Brian.

“No, I’m not okay!  Who’s that guy?  What was he trying to do?  He kept touching me!  I didn’t want him to touch me!”  Brian screamed as the tears streamed down his face.  “He kept touching me and I didn’t want him to!  I punched him.  Is he dead?”

“I don’t know, but he doesn’t look so good,” Darren replied as he looked at the guy that lay on the ground.

“Is he dead?  I punched him a lot.  Who is that guy?”  Brian asked, looking at Darren and then back to the guy that lie on the ground.

“I think he’s one of General Ranger’s guys,” Darren replied as the man got up off the ground and then lunged towards them.  “Mokla Zimma Rinn Zoon!”

“What did you just do?”  Brian asked as the man stood before them, frozen in place.

“For now, he’s frozen in place and can’t hurt either of us.  Let’s get away from here,” Darren stated as he waved his hand, disappearing from view as Brian took off running in the opposite direction.

The Awakening – Chapter 3

Chapter 3 — A Failed Abduction

Day 12 — The South side of Jacksonville, FL — The Avenues Mall — The Food Court Area

“Hey girl, do you want some sauce?”  Laci asked as she looked in Jennifer’s direction.

“Some soy sauce is fine with me,” Jennifer answered as she looked around again, spotting what looked like a soldier that was moving close to her location.  “Okay, this isn’t going to end well.  I’m sure that guy knows I can see him.  What am I going to do here?  What can I actually do that wouldn’t expose my powers?”

“Ms. Blake, may I have a word with you?”  Jennifer heard behind her as she turned around quickly, seeing the man that had been watching her from the second level of the mall.

“Who are you?”  Jennifer asked as she looked at the man closely.  “Do—do I know you?”

“My name is General Ranger,” the man replied with a smile.  “I know what you are capable of doing here and I need for you to be cool and just come with me.”

“Sorry mister, but she’s not going anywhere with you,” JT’s voice was heard as he appeared in a burst of light, grabbed Jennifer’s hand and then vanished with her.

“No!”  The man screamed as a few soldiers rushed to his location.  “She—she got away damn it!”

“What in the hell is going on around here?”  Laci asked as she looked around frantically.  “Where’s Jennifer?”

“What do we have here?  Maybe all isn’t lost after all.  Get that woman there!”  The man demanded with a smile.  “Maybe we can use this woman to bring Ms. Blake back.  I’m sure she’ll do anything to get her friend back.  Be quick, get that woman there.”

“Yes sir,” one of the soldiers stated with a salute as he grabbed Laci by the arm, holding her tightly as another soldier placed a bag over her head as they carried her out of the mall, kicking and screaming as they got her outside to a waiting van.

A Few Feet Away from the Mall’s Parking Lot

“Amaryllis, are you okay?”  JT asked as he looked at the woman as the two of them materialized in a burst of light.

“What’s going on Warrior?  Who was that man?”  Jennifer asked as she looked at JT closely and then looked around the area.

“They have your friend Laci,” JT stated as psychic energy flared around his eyes.  “Apparently someone in the government is trying to get to people like us.  I’ve already been on the receiving end and I don’t think you want to experience that.”

“No and I won’t,” Jennifer stated as her eyes glowed as her hair changed color as JT stepped back as the energy emanated from her body in all directions.

“No Jen, you need to calm down,” JT spoke as she shook her head.

“No, I need to kick some ass!  That shit back there was a set up!  They knew about my powers!  They knew where I was!  That guy called me by name!”  Jennifer screamed as she threw her hands up.  “Who is that man?”

“I can’t tell you because I don’t know,” JT replied as he looked down.

“He—he called himself General Ranger,” Jennifer stated as JT shook his head.

“I heard him,” JT replied as his eyes glowed.  “I know this guy, I just don’t know where I know him from.”

“So what are we up against here?”  Jennifer asked.

“I’m not going to lie to you Jen,” JT stated with a frown.  “Apparently they know about our powers and possibly how to neutralize them.  I went up against that guy and his military men… they were able to capture me.”

“Wait a minute, red flag!  They were able to capture you?  Aren’t you supposed to be a powerhouse, capable of stopping any…” Jennifer spoke as JT shook his head, stopping her.

“Where that guy is concerned, my magic and telekinesis didn’t even stand a chance,” JT stated with a frown.  “I went down girl; I went down like never before.”

“Damn, that’s not good,” Jennifer said as she turned around, gasping as she covered her mouth as she spotted General Ranger and his soldiers.  “Bro, we have company here.”

“What do you mean we have company?”  JT asked as he turned around.  “I—I didn’t even sense them.  See, this is what I’m talking about girl.”

“And that’s not a good thing either,” Jennifer stated as her eyes glowed as she jumped into the air, taking flight as one of the men fired a strange weapon that projected a net-like contraption that wrapped around her, stopping her from flying away.  “What the hell!”

“No!”  JT screamed, shaking his head as his eyes glowed as a few of the military men rushed him as his hand glowed brightly as a sword made of psychic energy appeared.  “Get away from me damn it!”

“You might as well give up freak.  You two can’t win here,” General Ranger spoke with a smile on his face as he stepped closer to where JT and Jennifer were as he laughed maniacally.

“What’s going on here?”  Tara asked as she and Darren appeared in a flash of light.

“I—I won’t let you creeps win!”  JT screamed as he hit one of the men with his sword, knocking the man down to the ground as he moved around quickly, striking another soldier with the sword as the man fell to the ground as he shook and convulsed.  “I—I can’t keep up like this!  I—I need an upgrade…”

“You need an upgrade to what?”  Tara asked as she looked around as JT’s body glowed brightly.

“Anima aeternam mutatio-Up!”  JT screamed as a ribbon-like energy shot out from his body, enveloping his body as the glow got brighter, blinding the soldiers near him as his body floated into the air a bit, his clothing changing, revealing a different set of clothing for his body, making him look like a royal authority figure.

“What in the hell is that?  What’s going on Warrior?”  Jennifer asked as she got the net-like contraption off of her body.  “Warrior, are you okay?”

“J, what’s going on here?”  Tara asked as Darren grabbed her hand, pulling her away from where JT was.

“No babe; something’s wrong.  I—I’m detecting strange magical energies here and it’s not good,” Darren stated as Tara looked at him and then back to JT.  “The energy is coming from him.  He—he’s tapped into something he shouldn’t be tapping into.”

“I am power!”  JT screamed as he raised his hand to the sky as lightning clashed through the sky as a bolt struck him, causing him to scream out as if he were in agony.

“Oh no, this doesn’t look so good,” Darren stated as he waved his hand, using his powers to shield himself and Tara.

“Mundus Silens!”  JT screamed as a bolt of lightning struck his body again as he lashed out with his hand, motioning in General Ranger’s direction as a beam of energy projected from his body, zapping General Ranger, knocking the man down to the ground.  “I don’t know who you are, but I’m putting a stop to you right now!”

“He’s using old tongue,” Darren stated as he shook his head and then waved his hand quickly, using his powers to move himself in front of General Ranger as he used his powers to shield himself and the man from JT’s attack.

“Darren, what are you doing?”  Tara asked as she jumped over to where Darren was, trying to reach for him, but wasn’t able to touch him because of an invisible barrier around his body.

“No Love, I can’t allow your friend to hurt this man.  There’s something wrong here,” Darren stated as Tara vanished and then reappeared behind JT.

“You can’t stop me from stopping him!”  JT screamed as his eyes flared with psychic energy.  “That man tried to kill us, all of us!”

“Don’t worry Warrior, he’s mine!”  Jennifer screamed as Tara shook her head, grabbed her lasso and then used it to rope Jennifer in, stopping her from moving.

“I don’t understand what’s going on here, but if my husband is trying to stop this madness, I’m going to let him do so,” Tara stated as Darren smiled as the energy and ribbon flared about JT’s body, changing his clothing back to what he previously had on.

“David Ranger, I won’t allow you to hurt me, my friends or innocent people like us!”  JT snapped as General Ranger got up off the ground and then wiped at his mouth.  “You called me Malevolent earlier; I think that’s a name I should adapt here, just for you!”

“What’s going on?”  Tara asked as JT’s eyes glowed.

“Amazon, get your husband before he causes a bigger problem,” JT said as he pointed at Darren.  “The next time I won’t stop, I’ll zap his ass too!”

“That’s not called for,” Darren stated as he moved closer to where JT stood.  “The General isn’t trying to hurt anyone, he—he’s trying to get help.”

“Are you out of your fucking mind?  You must be crazy!  Amazon, did he fall and bump his head somewhere?”  JT asked as he looked at Darren as if he were crazy.  “That man and his damn goon squad have been trying to kill all of us, including you!  Open your damn eyes man!”

“That’s not really correct,” General Ranger spoke as he walked past Darren with a sly smile on his face.  “My men were merely trying to keep the peace.  If you look at things logically I suppose, you people attacked first.”

“No, you and your damn men attacked first!”  JT snapped, the vibrations from his voice shaking things up around them as a few of the soldiers fell to the ground.  “You and your so-called men bum-rushed a young man in his home and when I went to get him back for his family, you knocked me out and then kept me prisoner for a few days, locked to a damn exam table, in one of your damn research rooms!”

“But you still attacked first,” General Ranger spoke as JT shook his head as lightning clashed through the sky.

“Are you fucking kidding me here?  Are we even listening to this crap?”  JT asked as he looked around.  “You know what, it doesn’t matter, I’m going to kill them right now!”

“No JT, I won’t allow that to happen.  We don’t kill,” Darren stated as JT shook his head.

“Hmph, you have no choice in the matter man,” JT stated as he waved his hand in General Ranger’s direction as nothing happened as the man smiled.

“Things are okay here men, take them down… all of them, now!”  General Ranger demanded as Darren’s eyes widened.

“See, just what I expected from an evil man!”  JT snapped as he moved around Darren quickly as his psychic sword appeared in his hand again as he fought against the soldiers that fought to capture him.

“I—I was tricked?!”  Darren screamed as he gestured with his hand, using his powers to cast a spell as a few of the soldiers changed into small creatures.

“Stop the conjurer, before he does something more!”  General Ranger screamed as more soldiers fired their weapons at Darren as he raised his hands, quickly using his magic to create a shield around his body, deflecting the bullets.

“Damn, this is harder than it looks!”  Darren screamed as his eyes glowed an eerie green color as magical energy surrounded his body, deflecting the soldier’s bullets in different directions.

“Warrior, what are we going to do here?”  Jennifer asked as she punched one of the soldiers, knocking the man across the parking lot as she grabbed another one and then tossed him through the air.

“We fight until we end this!”  JT yelled as he disappeared and then reappeared behind a few of the soldiers, slashing them with his psychic blade as they shook and then fell to the ground.  “Brian, do your thing!”

“Cool,” Brian spoke as he ran around the area, knocking a few of the soldiers down to the ground.  “This is going to be so much fun!”

“Fall back men, there are too many of them to fight right now!”  General Ranger demanded as he pressed a button on his belt as a jet descended from the sky as a landing bay door opened.

“I don’t think so!”  JT snapped as he disappeared and then reappeared near General Ranger, making contact with his forehead with his bare hand.

“What’re you doing?”  General Ranger asked as JT’s eyes glowed brightly as psychic energy flared around his head, the aura taking on the form of a firebird.  “What’re you doing to me?”

“I’m making you forget about us!”  JT screamed as a few soldiers fired their rifles on him and the man as he held out his hand, using his powers to deflect the bullets the best he could.  “It seems your boys there don’t care if you die, so that must mean you’re not the top man on the scene!”

“Warrior, what are you doing?”  Jennifer asked as she punched another of the soldiers.  “We don’t have time for this!”

“I’m stopping him and his men from finding us again!”  JT replied as General Ranger pressed another button on his belt as a strange energy field surrounded his body, knocking JT away from him.  “What in the hell was that?”

“Are you okay man?”  Darren asked as he knelt down to help JT up off the ground as Brian stopped behind the two of them.

“Are you okay buddy?”  Brian asked as he looked at JT, leaning in and dusting JT’s costume off.  “It looks like you took a nasty fall there.”

“I’m fine,” JT replied as his eyes shimmered as a wave of energy started from his head and then traveled down to his feet, making his costume look good as new.

“Man, that’s so cool,” Brian spoke with a smile as he watched JT.

“We need to get away from here and now,” JT said as he looked around.  “It seems the General and his soldier friends made a quick exit.”

“Yeah, they got away with my friend,” Jennifer stated with a frown.  “We have to do something to get Laci back.”

“We will Jennifer, but first we have to find a place to go,” JT stated as his eyes glowed.  “We can’t stay out here in the open like this.  We need to regroup and get some rest.”

“We can go back to my place in New York,” Tara stated as she looked over at JT.

“Are you sure about that Tara?”  JT asked as she nodded her head.

“I think we all need to wash up, get a bite to eat and get some rest.  After that, then we all need to talk,” Tara stated as JT looked at Darren and then frowned.

“I’m game with that,” Brian said as he stepped closer to JT with a smile on his face.

“JT, do you want to do the honors here?”  Tara asked as JT looked at her strangely as he grabbed her hand and then raised his other one as the five of them disappeared.

Day 15 — Los Angeles CA — LA County General Hospital — A Critical Care Room

“Look Mack, I don’t know what we’re facing here, but there’s got to be some reasons for why this funny stuff keeps happening around here,” Dr. Michael Tanner stated as he looked over the chart for the patient he was in the room to analyze.

“Could it be the trauma to the brain that’s causing the strange results?”  James ‘Mack’ Griffiths asked as he looked at the patient’s x-ray slides.

“It could be the trauma to the brain, but I don’t suspect the trauma is the cause for all of this,” Dr. Tanner stated as he flipped some pages in the chart.

“That what do you suspect is?”  Mack asked as he looked at the man, just as the heart monitors connected to the patient all sounded abruptly.  “What in the hell is going on?”

“Let’s step outside,” Dr. Tanner suggested as he opened the door to the room as the machine’s buzzers all stopped.  “I can’t explain why the machines do that, but the readings in the chart are extraordinary.”

“Yes, the readings are remarkable, but those machines only do that when someone starts talking about the brain trauma, correct?”  Mack spoke as he looked at his colleague.  “Maybe that’s some kind of sigh.”

“Maybe so, but a sign of what?  Only God knows the answers to what’s going on in the mind and body of that patient,” Dr. Tanner stated as he placed the chart in the holder on the door.  “Walk with me.”

“Where are we going?”  Mack asked as he looked back at the nurse’s station they passed.

“I think we need to talk about some things,” Dr. Tanner stated with a smile as they continued walking down the hall, entering a new wing of the hospital.  “This is what I want you to see.”

“What is this place?”  Mack asked as he looked around.

“This is a new research testing wing,” Dr. Tanner answered with a smile as he motioned with his hand for Mack to walk inside.  “I, along with others here, think your expertise, dealing with gene research will help us out greatly with some of the cases we come across here.”

“What kind of research testing do you do here?”  Mack asked as he looked at a strange machine in the room.

“The kind of research that benefits our nation,” Dr. Tanner stated with a sly smile.

“Go on,” Mack said as he moved around the room, looking at different items as he stopped in front of one of the machines that was active.  “What is this machine?”

“I don’t know,” Dr. Tanner stated as he walked up behind Mack.  “This is something that one of the other doctors is working on.  I think it has something to do with how certain forms of energy effects the cellular structure of the body.”

“Someone is working on the effects of energy on the cellular structure of the body?  What other kind of testing is going on here at this hospital?”  Mack asked as he looked back at the man.

“There are many different projects going on here.  I wouldn’t be able to tell you what they are, that’s classified,” Dr. Tanner stated as he smiled at the man.  “Besides, if something goes wrong, we’re already in a hospital.  It’s something like a win-win here.”

“I’m sure it is a win-win, but there are different concerns I would…” Mack stated as Dr. Tanner patted him on the back and then walked him to another area of the room.

“I’m sure your concerns are valid and all, but there are a lot of things your talents could be used for here,” Dr. Tanner stated as they walked over to another machine as Mack got closer to it and rubbed the glass to see that there was a person inside of it.  “So what do you say Mack.  Are you interested in signing on with us to help out?”  Dr. Tanner asked as he extended his hand to Mack.

“What all is involved?”  Mack asked as he turned away from the machine, looking at Dr. Tanner.

“Someone from the DoSR[1] will contact you and you’ll go from there,” Dr. Tanner stated as he and Mack walked towards the exit of the area.

Washington, D.C. — The Pentagon — A Secret Restricted Area

“At ease soldier,” a tall white man spoke as he entered the room.  “Where is General Ranger?”

“The General isn’t available sir,” the soldier replied as the man looked at him strangely.  “Is there something I may help you with sir?”

“I would like to know what happened out in the field a few days ago with your team and the General,” the man spoke as he walked over to a computer console, pressed a button, scanned his ID badge on the computer console and then pressed more buttons as a video monitor activated as footage of events that happened with General Ranger and JT was displayed on the screen.  “What was that?  What happened here?  Where are the subjects in this footage?  There isn’t a record of those beings here.”

“Ah… Sir… Well… That’s because they are not here,” the soldier spoke as the man raised an eye at him.  “Sir, if I could just…”

“Why aren’t those beings here?  I see footage here that you all were there with them, so why weren’t they captured and brought here?”  The man asked as he looked at the soldier closely.  “Why aren’t those things here?”

“Sir, that is… I don’t now how to answer that sir,” the soldier replied as he looked down.

“Look at me when I talk to you boy,” the man spoke as he pressed another button on the computer console.  “As you can see, you all were equipped with everything you needed to bring those—those things in.  So why aren’t they here right now?  I know the equipment isn’t faulty.  The equipment is able to do what our goal is.  So boy, either your leadership in obtaining what we want is faulty or there’s another problem.  Which is it boy?”

“Sir, I don’t know how to answer that question,” the soldier spoke with a frown on his face.

“Then I’ll answer it for you,” the man spoke as he looked at the soldier closely.  “As of this moment, you are no longer in command of those men. When General Ranger returns, have him come find me.”

“But sir,” the soldier spoke as the man eyed him as if he were crazy.  “Sorry sir, I will do as you ask.”

“Good,” the man spoke as the soldier saluted as the man nodded his head as the soldier walked away.  “David, what in the hell have you gotten this department mixed up in now?  It’s one thing to go after super enhanced human beings, it’s another things to be fascinated with a certain one to go to these lengths to try to capture him.  If I didn’t know any better, I’d think David was sweet on that black man.”
