Chapter 17 — Life’s End, Part 3
Jun 3, 2004 – Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Hotel Victoria – Ken’s Hotel Room
“Don’t tell me that you decided to call it a night already JT,” Ken spoke as he opened the door. “Kyle, what are you doing here?”
“No lover, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you in New York, where you’re supposed to be? Why in the hell are you here in Canada?” The man identified as Kyle asked as he pushed Ken to the side, walked into the room and then slammed the door behind him.
“Kyle, I’m here because of another matter,” Ken answered as the man looked at him closely and then smacked him across the face.
“You told me that you were going to be in New York, handling some business,” Kyle stated as he drew back to hit Ken again, but stopped. “Why the fuck are you here in Canada? Dam it, answer me!”
“I’m here because a friend of mine is getting married tomorrow,” Ken answered as he moved back away from the man as he held his hand up to protect his face.
“What friend would that happen to be? Is it JT? Isn’t that the name you said before you opened the door and realized that it was me there instead?” The man asked as he grabbed Ken by the collar of his shirt and then jacked him up. “What’s going on here Ken? Are you here for that bitch JT, the JT you used to date? The JT you had plans of marrying a long time ago?”
“I’m here because he and Justin Tanner are getting married tomorrow,” Ken stated as the man shook his head, pushing him backwards, causing him to slam into the wall as he walked around him to see the bed.
“Who’s been sleeping in the bed bitch? I know how you sleep and it looks like more than one person has been sleeping in this bed!” Kyle screamed as Ken slid along the wall, moving in the opposite direction. “Who else fucking you bitch? You better not be riding no other dick out there but mine!”
“I haven’t been fucking around with anyone else,” Ken stated as some tears rolled down his cheek. “Honest Kyle, I haven’t done anything wrong. My nephew is here with me and he was jumping up and down on the bed earlier.”
“Why in the hell are you here with your nephew?” Kyle asked.
“He’s JT’s son,” Ken stated as Kyle stopped moving, looked at him strangely and then turned around.
“Wait a minute, we’re talking about the same JT you were with, right bitch?” Kyle asked as he turned to face Ken.
“Yes,” Ken replied as he looked down. “He and my sister Heather have a child together.”
“Oh damn, is that the reason why you two broke up?” Kyle asked, walking over to where Ken stood against the wall and then slapped his face. “Is that the reason you two broke up? You didn’t have what he wanted and he went after your sister and got the bitch knocked up? Is that it, bitch?”
“No, that’s not it at all,” Ken stated as Kyle slapped his face again and then grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him up off the floor. “Stop Kyle, you promised that you wouldn’t act this way anymore. Why are you doing this?”
“This is happening because you fucking lied to me!” Kyle snapped as he slapped Ken across the face and then pushed him towards the balcony doors.
“Stop it Kyle,” Ken pleaded as Kyle pushed him against the balcony doors, causing the doors to open as Ken stumbled outside and fell to the floor.
“Why should I stop Ken? You’re supposed to be in New York right now. If you had been where you told me that you would be, this wouldn’t be happening right now, would it?” Kyle asked as he grabbed Ken, pulled him up to his feet and then held him against the balcony railing.
“How did you even know we were here?” Ken asked, looking Kyle in the face and then turned slightly to see what was behind him.
“I called your travel agent,” Kyle stated as he slapped Ken across the face again. “She told me that you hadn’t booked any flights to New York or anywhere in America, but you were here in Canada. You’ve been here for almost a week, lying to me!”
“I wasn’t lying to you Kyle,” Ken stated as Kyle slapped him again and then punched him in the stomach as Ken doubled over from the pain in his gut.
“You lying bitch!” Kyle screamed as he kneed Ken in the groin and then punched him in the face as Ken’s body slipped backwards, causing him to fall over the balcony railing.
Jun 4, 2004 – After Midnight – JT and Justin’s Hotel Room
“Baby, wake up,” Justin softly spoke as he rubbed JT’s back. “Don’t you have to take him back to Ken’s room?”
“Hmmm,” JT moaned, rolling around on the bed, bumping into another body as his eyes shot open as he sat up quickly. “Oh God, we fell asleep.”
“Yeah we did,” Justin said with a small smile. “Are you okay baby?”
“Yeah,” JT replied, yawning as he looked down at Caleb’s sleeping body. “I’m not going to allow Heather to ruin what we could possibly have together. He’s my son and I’m going to treat him as such.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that,” Justin said as he leaned in and kissed JT’s lips as giggling could be heard.
“Well it seems someone is awake also,” JT said as he looked down at Caleb.
“Hello Daddy,” Caleb spoke as he yawned and then stretched his arms over his head.
“Hello little man,” JT spoke, tickling Caleb’s stomach as the little boy squirmed around. “Did you sleep okay?”
“Yes Daddy,” Caleb replied, yawning again.
“Are you ready to go back to Uncle Ken?” JT asked as Caleb looked down with a frown on his face.
“Can I stay here with you a little bit longer Daddy?” Caleb asked with a pleading look on his face.
“I don’t see why not,” JT replied, looking at Justin as Justin shrugged his shoulders. “I guess you can hang out here with us. If Ken was worried, I’m sure he would’ve came over to check on you.”
“Besides, we’re getting married today… We can include him in the ceremony,” Justin stated as JT looked at him strangely.
“Really? I can be in the ceremoanee?” Caleb asked as JT and Justin laughed and then nodded their heads. “Cool Daddy. Justin, what will I call you then?”
“You still call me Justin,” Justin answered as he yawned and then got up off the bed.
“Where you going mister?” JT asked, looking up at Justin.
“I have to see a man about a race horse,” Justin replied as JT shook his head.
“Lawd, just go pee man,” JT stated as he moved around on the bed and then sat up. “Caleb, go ahead and take off your shoes.”
“Okay Daddy,” Caleb replied, kicking his shoes off.
“Do you have to go to the bathroom Caleb?” JT asked as Caleb shook his head in the negative. “Okay then, come on up here.”
“Okay Daddy,” Caleb replied as JT pulled the covers back on the bed, holding them as he crawled under them.
“You hang tight, I’m going to use the bathroom and get ready for bed too,” JT stated, getting up off the bed as he walked towards the bathroom.
Philadelphia, PA – Philadelphia Police Department, 6th District – Booking Area
“Morning Detective Charles, what do you have for me?” The booking officer asked as Detective Warren Charles and two patrol officers entered the area with Heather and Shannon.
“New inmate, name is Heather Stewart with pending charges for felonious rape, assault, bribery and resisting arrest,” Detective Charles stated, directing Heather over to a chair in a cell as another officer walked in behind Heather, removing her handcuffs.
“Next,” the booking officer spoke.
“Shannon Tate, pending charges for obstruction and also resisting arrest,” Detective Charles stated.
“Thanks sir,” the booking officer stated with a smile as Shannon was directed into the cell with Heather. “Oh yeah, Captain Harris is looking for you.”
“Thanks,” Detective Charles replied as he tipped his hat and then walked out of the room.
“Hey, excuse me,” Heather spoke up as the booking officer looked over at her, getting ready to close the cell door.
“Be quiet,” the booking officer instructed as Heather’s eyes widened.
“I will certainly not be quiet! How dare you people treat me this way! I haven’t done anything wrong, I shouldn’t be here!” Heather screamed as a few police officers rushed into the area, lining up outside of the cell.
“Heather, I think you need to just be quiet,” Shannon stated as she took a seat as Heather shook her head.
“I won’t be quiet! I’m not going down for something I haven’t done! I’m here under false pretenses!” Heather snapped as two female officers walked over to her. “You two don’t scare me!”
“Miss, it would be best if you stayed quiet,” one of the officers spoke with a neutral expression.
“It would be in my best interest if I wasn’t here in this fucking place!” Heather yelled as the other officer shook her head as Heather slid into another chair, getting away from the officers. “I’m not guilty of anything, I don’t belong in this damn dump!”
“I don’t have time for this,” one of the officer’s spoke as Heather bumped one of the officers as both women looked at her and then wrestled her to the floor.
“No!” Heather screamed as she moved around on the floor, trying to get away from the officers.
“Stop resisting Miss,” one of the officers stated, grabbing Heather’s arm and pulling it behind her back, holding her down on the floor as Heather kicked and continued to struggle with the officers.
“This is police brutality!” Heather screamed as she struggled more.
“Heather, just stop it!” Shannon yelled as the officers continued wrestling around with Heather.
“What in the world is going on in here?” Detective Charles asked as he and a few police officers rushed into the area.
“She’s being resistant!” The booking officer yelled as two more officers went into the cell to help the other two officers.
“This is ridiculous,” Detective Charles said as he shook his head. “This woman is determined to cause problems every damn where she goes. Someone get the chair!”
“The chair?” Shannon said as she watched things happen around her as an officer returned to the area with a chair that had head, arm and leg restraints attached to it.
“Get her in that damn chair, now!” Detective Charles harshly directed.
“Heather please stop,” Shannon pleaded as one of the officers pointed at her.
“We don’t need your help in this ma’am, we got this. You just keep quiet,” one of the officers stated as Heather was hefted up off the floor and then assisted into the chair, being strapped into it. “Okay Miss, until you can calm yourself down, we’re going to put you into solitary confinement.”
“No!” Heather screamed as more restraints were placed on her as she struggled more, trying to get out of the chair.
“Look, the longer you struggle, the longer it’s going to take for us to get you completely booked and processed,” one of the officers stated.
“Which room is she going in?” The booking officer asked.
“We’re putting her into ‘S’ dash four,” one of the officers stated, walking down the corridor, pushing the chair with Heather strapped to it as a cell door was opened. “Let’s go ahead and get her in here and let her cool off. I think after she’s been here a few hours, all that fire will have burned out.”
“I’m going to have all you bitches badges when I’m done with you! This is police brutality damn it!” Heather screamed as she continued to struggle, making the chair shake from side-to-side.
“Whatever you say Miss,” one of the officers said as all of them backed out of the cell and then closed the door, leaving Heather by herself.
“You,” Detective Charles spoke as he stepped into the cell with Shannon. “Are you her family or just a friend?”
“I’m a friend,” Shannon replied, looking at the man strangely.
“Does she have a history of mental illness?” Detective Charles asked as Shannon glared at him. “If she has some mental health issues, we need to know, so we can get her some help.”
“There’s nothing wrong with her, besides the fact that you people have set her up and locked her up,” Shannon stated as Detective Charles stepped back, tipped his hat and then walked out of the cell, closing it behind him as he walked over to the booking officer.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Hotel Victoria – Vanessa’s Hotel Room
“I think you need to calm down ‘Nessa,” James stated as he shook his head.
“How dare you tell me to calm down!” Vanessa screamed, throwing her hands up. “I can’t believe you told him all of that!”
“I didn’t have to tell him anything woman!” James screamed, walking over to Vanessa with a sadistic look on his face. “Don’t be trying to put the blame on me, now that he knows everything! Apparently, he never forgot any of it! I just don’t understand why he didn’t get you out of his life earlier.”
“Now wait just a fucking minute!” Vanessa snapped, grabbing James by his arm, snatching him around.
“No, you wait a fucking minute woman!” James screamed. “This scene isn’t going to play out like it did back in Philly.”
“Meaning what James?” Vanessa asked as James opened his blazer and pulled a gun from the inside pocket. “James, what are you doing? What are you thinking?”
“You shot me ‘Nessa and you left me for dead in that damn hotel room!” James screamed, getting closer to Vanessa, her expression changing as he grabbed her by her shirt, holding her close. “Don’t you think I should return the damn favor?”
“James no, stop!” Vanessa screamed as James shook his head and then placed the gun to her chest, cocking the trigger as he moved it in between her breasts. “No James, please… Don’t do this to me, you love me.”
“I begged you ‘Nessa. I begged you for many years and what did you damn do?” James asked as he shook his head and then pushed the gun against her chest, scaring her more. “You turned me away and pushed me out of our son—sons lives! Because of your damn actions, my son hates me and doesn’t want anything to do with me!”
“I—I’m sorry James,” Vanessa said as the tears streamed down her face.
“It’s too late for you to be sorry now ‘Nessa,” James stated as he shook his head. “You ruined the lives of many people… You did that just so you could be the famous Vanessa Jameson! What was wrong with being Vanessa Poole? Hell, you could’ve stayed Vanessa Clemons, but no, you had to use my first name and added letters from your own to make your new alias, an alias that’s done nothing but destroy lives!”
“I—I haven’t destroyed lives,” Vanessa stated as James shook his head.
“Don’t fuck with me woman, I’ll silence you forever,” James stated as more tears fell from Vanessa’s eyes. “You were the only woman in this world that I loved like this and all you did was fuck me over and for what, to be a star! Was it worth it ‘Nessa? Come on, was it worth all of this? Look at your life now, you have nothing left! So, was it fucking worth it ‘Nessa?”
“No,” Vanessa said as James smiled and then pulled the trigger on the gun.
“That was just the answer I was looking for,” James said as he kissed Vanessa’s lips and then pushed her off of his arm as she slid down to the floor, hitting with a thump. “Hopefully someone will find you in time to get you some medical attention. Goodbye Vanessa.”
Early Morning – The Hotel Lobby
“Good morning,” a Toronto Police Service officer spoke as he walked over to the counter. “I need to speak with the person in charge of this hotel.”
“Good morning, is there something I can help you with?” The person behind the counter asked as the police officer tipped his hat and then frowned.
“There has been an accident here and we need to collect some information,” the officer stated as an emergency vehicle was seen leaving the parking area.
“What kind of accident?” The person behind the counter asked.
“To start, there was a man found out back in the alley. It seems he fell from one of the higher levels of this hotel,” the officer stated. “We need to check the register to see who this person is, so we can find out where the accident actually occurred.”
“Oh my God, what’s the status of the person?” The person behind the counter asked with a concerned look.
“The person seems to be alive, but just barely,” the officer stated. “The man is currently in a coma.”
“Oh no,” the person stated as the printer finished printing. “This is the current guest roster.”
“Thank you,” the officer responded as he looked over the list. “Do you happen to have copies of the guests’ identification cards that are currently checked in?”
“Yes,” the person replied.
“That would more than likely help to identify the man if he is a guest of this hotel,” the officer stated as the person walked into another room and then returned with a manila folder.
“Here you are,” the person stated as the officer opened the folder and flipped through the pages and then stopped.
“I found him,” the officer stated, looking at the page closely. “His name is Kenneth Hampton, he’s from America.”
“Oh my, I hope he’s not with the group of celebrities staying here,” the person stated with a frown. “That can bring a whole lot of attention to the hotel.”
“You may need to get prepared. I’m sure there will be a lot of attention,” the officer stated, walking through the doors that led outside.
Chicago, IL – The Clemons Estates – The Master Bedroom
In the wee hours of the morning, the moonlight shone through the windows, glistening the bodies of the two people that lie in bed, sound asleep. Unknown to the two, their peaceful sleep is about to come to an abrupt end. Within seconds, the sound of someone pounding on a door could be heard in the bedroom, jarring one of the people awake. With a bit of fumbling, the person reached over to the bedside table and turned on a lamp.
“Eddie, Eddie baby, you need to get up, I think someone’s at the door,” the person whispered, shaking the other person, trying to wake them.
Getting no response, the person looked around the room as the sound of something or someone pounding on a door could be heard again, but a bit louder than before. Shaking the other person a bit more forcefully this time, the person stirred just a bit to acknowledge the person there, but gave no other response.
“Eddie, I think someone’s in the house with us,” the person spoke, pulling the covers closer to their chest.
Sighing, the person pounded their fist into the other person’s back, trying to get their attention as the pounding got a bit louder and persistent. Opening a drawer on the bedside table, the person pulled out what looked like a gun.
“Come on Eddie, you need to get up. I think someone is in the house with us,” the person stated, poking the other person in the side.
“No baby, I got work in the morning. I’m not getting out of this bed until it’s time for work,” the person said as the pounding could be heard again and then there was a crash.
“I know you heard that,” the person said, poking the other person in the side again. “Get up and go see what that is.”
“I didn’t hear nothing baby,” the other person replied as a creaking sound was heard.
“Eddie!” The person screamed as the door to the bedroom opened, revealing a man standing there with a baseball bat in one hand and a gun in the other hand.
“Well hello you two,” the man spoke as both people in the bed, moved around quickly, trying to cover their bodies with the sheet. “Eddie, Juanita, it’s so good to have your attention, so early in the morning.”
“What in the hell are you doing here?” One of the person’s identified as Eddie asked as he slid up more in the bed.
“Man, why you been ducking me?” The man asked. “Eddie, you got my money?”
“Eddie, what’s going on here?” The person identified as Juanita asked.
“No, the question is, Eddie where is my money?” The man asked.
“What in the hell are you doing in my fucking house?” Eddie asked, glaring at the man.
“No Eddie, what are you doing here, when you should be out there, getting me my damn money! I don’ told you many times that I’m not going to keep waiting on you, to give me, my gatt damn money!” The person snapped as he stood at the foot of the bed, pointing the gun at Eddie.
“I—I need some more time Skeeter!” Eddie exclaimed as the man raised an eye at him.
“Who you think you raising your voice to?” The man asked.
“I—I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to do that, but it’s really early in the morning and you’re scaring the hell out of me and my wife,” Eddie stated as Juanita looked at him and then back at the man.
“You don’ had six fuckin’ months to get me my damn money. You were only supposed to had one. I want my gatt damn money Eddie! I’m tired of you fucking wit’ me!” The man screamed as he hit the footboard of the bed with the bat. “Your time has ran out, I want all of my money!”
“I—I don’t have all of your money,” Eddie responded, the expression on his face changing.
“What do you mean you don’t have all of my money? You told me that you had a big score coming in,” the man stated as he walked around the bed, getting closer to Eddie and pointing the bat in his face. “You told me the other day that you and your boys were coming into some money. I want my money and I want it now!”
“I—I don’t have it now,” Eddie stated as the man shook his head.
“Tell you what I’m going to do,” the man said as Eddie looked at the bat, the gun and then back up at the man’s eyes. “I’m going to give you some more time, but the money you owe me has doubled.”
“What! I can’t…” Eddie snapped, but then stopped when the man poked the bat in his face. “Come on Skeeter, I don’t have that kind of money just lying around.”
“How much money are we talking about here?” Juanita asked.
“Your man here, into me for one hunned large now,” the man stated as Juanita’s eyes widened.
“You owe him one hundred thousand dollars? How in the hell did that happen? What you do with that kind of money?” Juanita asked.
“I had to pay off some debt and now we have more debt,” Eddie stated as Juanita shook her head.
“No, you have debt,” Juanita stated as she shook her head, grabbed the sheet and pulled it to her body as she slid out of the bed. “You two work out what you need to do, but I’m getting the hell up out of here.”
“Gatt damnit Juanita, you helped me spend that damn money!” Eddie screamed as the man shook his head and then started laughing.
“See, that’s why you shouldn’t get attached to no bitch,” the man stated as he pointed the bat at Eddie again. “Do what you need to do to get my damn money Eddie. I’ll see you again in a few days.”
“A few days? I can’t come up with that kind of money in a few days,” Eddie stated.
“Maybe you need to call that superstar sister of yours and get some damn money from her,” the man stated as he smiled and then turned around. “Oh, if you try to fucking duck me again or try to screw me over, I will kill you Eddie.”
