Chapter 5 — Reality or …
Mar 2, 1996 – Jacksonville, FL – X-Ternals’ Complex – Donna James’ Quarters
“What in the hell is going on around here? It feels like I’m losing my damn mind,” Donna said as she shook her head.
“Maybe you are,” Donna heard behind her as she turned around to see JT standing there in the shadows.
“JT, what’re you doing in here?” Donna asked.
“No Donna, the question is, what are you doing here?” JT asked, smiling evilly as he moved closer to where Donna lay on the bed as her eyes glowed, signaling that she was using her telepathic powers. “Nah ah, you can’t use those mind powers on me Donna.”
“What in the hell is going on here JT? What are you doing?” Donna asked.
“It’s not a matter of what I’m doing, it’s a matter of what I’m not doing,” JT replied, smiling again as he moved closer to her as he waved his hand as she floated off the bed.
“What in the hell are you going?” Donna asked.
“I’m releasing you from the constraints of this life,” JT stated as he moved his hand in a ‘Z’ formation over Donna’s body as she screamed out. “Have fun Tele Girl, I’m sure you’ll love it!”
Somewhere in Georgia – An Unknown Medical Complex
“Courtney! Courtney, where in the hell are you?” JT called out, walking into a hospital exam room.
“What’s the deal JT? What’s with all the screaming?” A young woman asked, walking into the room behind him.
“What in the hell is going on?” JT asked, looking at the young woman.
“What are you talking about?” The young woman asked.
“Don’t play with me Courtney, I’m not in the mood right now,” JT stated, looking at the young woman closely as if there was something wrong.
“What’s going on?” The young woman asked, patting JT on the shoulder.
“Look, I don’t know what’s going on, but something’s not right here,” JT stated, shaking his head.
“What’s wrong JT?” The young woman asked, looking at JT strangely.
“I wasn’t trying to get here. I was trying to get to Mother Divine’s house so I could stop her, finally,” JT stated as the young woman looked at him strangely as he tapped his foot. “What’s going on? Why did I appear here and not there?”
“What are you talking about? Where is this Mother Divine’s house? Who’s that? Did you get a pass to leave?” The young woman asked as JT looked at her strangely. “JT, are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m okay Courtney. What’s the big deal? Why did I appear here and not at Mother Divine’s house?” JT asked. “Once I take care of her, I can get back to my life and go find Joey and have a good time with him.”
“You can have fun with Joey? Who’s Joey?” The young woman asked.
“Oh come on, you should know who he is, he’s the guy I’ve been dating. You know, the boy band member from the singing group All Star. Joey Fallon, he’s my boyfriend,” JT stated, looking at the young woman strangely.
“I don’t know who you’re talking about JT. When did you get a boyfriend JT? Are you gay? What happened to Danielle?” The young woman asked.
“What? Danielle? Have you been drinking girl?” JT asked, shaking his head. “You know I’m gay and I’ve always been that way. Stop playing stupid girl.”
“No, I haven’t been drinking, but maybe you have,” the young woman stated as she walked over to JT and then touched his forehead, acting as if she were checking his temperature. “Did you go and have one of your special dreams again?”
“Did I have a special dream again? What are you talking about Courtney?” JT asked, looking at the young woman strangely as he looked around the room.
“Now I get it, that’s what it is. You did have one of your special dreams again. Come with me,” the young woman stated as she took JT’s hand, leading him down the hall to a room. “Let’s get you back to bed and get you your medication.”
“What! What in the hell is going on here? I don’t take medication!” JT screamed, pushing the young woman away from him as he tried to move away from her. “Get away from me!”
“Come on JT, get back into bed. It seems you’ve had a bad night,” the young woman stated.
“A bad night! I didn’t have a bad damn night! What are you talking about? Where’s Joey?” JT asked as the tears streamed down his face. “Uncle! A’Mora! Pamela! Ashley!”
“Come on JT, calm down buddy,” the young woman stated as she waved her hand at JT.
“No!” JT screamed.
“You stay here and I’ll go get Danielle,” the young woman stated as she walked out of the room.
“What in the hell is going on here? Where’s Joey? Why is she talking about Danielle? Maybe—maybe I’m losing my mind again. Am—am I still with those crazy people that were trying to convert me from being gay to straight? What in the hell is going on here? Did the others really rescue me or was that all a dream?” JT asked as the young woman returned to the room with a familiar looking, unwanted girl.
“Are you okay JT? Courtney told me that you were having a bad time. Have you taken your medications today?” The girl asked.
“Danielle Drake?! God please tell me that I’m dreaming!” JT snapped, closing his eyes as he waved his hand as if he was trying to use his powers to teleport away, but nothing happened. “Oh God, nothing’s happening!”
“JT, what are you doing?” The girl asked.
“I’m trying to teleport away from here!” JT snapped, backing away from the two young women as he backed up against the wall.
“Oh no, he’s feeling trapped. I was afraid this was going to happen,” the first young woman stated as she shook her head.
“Get away from me! I’ll kill both of you if you don’t stay away from me!” JT yelled, holding his hand out in front of his body, expecting something to happen, but nothing did.
“JT, what are you doing? What has gotten you into such a mood tonight?” The girl asked.
“Stay away from me! Don’t come near me! This must be some kind of sick game!” JT snapped, pushing past the two young women as he ran from the room.
“We don’t need this tonight. Call Martin and tell him that JT is having one of his moments again,” the first young woman spoke as she walked out of the room to locate JT.
“Hi Martin, Danielle here… It seems JT has flipped out again. I need you to find him and then bring him back to his room. Be warned, you might need to restrain him if he’s acting a little off,” the girl spoke into a walkie-talkie.
= Gotcha boss lady. =
“It couldn’t have been a dream… it was so damn real. It was all so real,” JT stated, hiding in the corner as he cried. “I know I’m not that crazy. They were real… it was all real. I was there, my friends, the X-Ternals… they are all real. I’m not crazy. I—I’m not crazy. I’m still asleep… That’s what it is. I’m still dreaming, I have to be dreaming. This—this isn’t make any sense. I—I was happy—I was so happy. I was a super hero. I—I finally had someone that—that I was supposed to love, that’s supposed to love me. I…”
“You know… you really have some weird dreams JT,” JT heard as he looked up to see the young woman standing there, looking down at him. “Alright JT, come on, let’s get you back to your room.”
“I don’t want to go. Just leave me alone,” JT stated, wiping at his eyes. “I just want to be left alone.”
“Well what you want right now isn’t what you’re going to get. You’re going back to your room and back to bed. Come on buddy, let’s go,” the young woman stated, grabbing JT by the hand as she pulled him up to his feet.
“Let go!” JT screamed, kicking the young woman on her leg.
“Owww! I didn’t want it to come to this,” the young woman stated as she pulled a syringe from her pocket, pulling the cap off as JT shook his head.
“No!” JT screamed.
“I’m sorry JT,” the young woman stated as she stuck the needle into a bottle and then inserted the contents of the syringe into JT’s arm. “You should be feeling that any moment now.”
“What have you done to me? Why are you doing this to me?” JT asked, shaking his head as he fell backwards against the wall, feeling the effects of the medication that was injected into him. “No, I don’t want to sleep, I need to find Joey… Why Destiny, why did you…”
“That’s right JT, go back to sleep,” the young woman stated with a frown.
“No, I—I was his… I was—I was his… I was his super hero,” JT spoke as he slid down the wall, falling into a deep sleep.
Between Here and There – The Limbo Dimension – Castle Limbo
Lawd, what have I done to my boy? Why did I do that to him? I know what I’ve done is going to cause a bigger problem in the long run, but I just couldn’t allow him to return to Earth to kill my sister, his aunt. The way he acted, he was hysterical and he was going to do any and everything he possibly could to carry his wishes out.
This is all one big damn mess. I shouldn’t have done things the way I did, but it seems I had no choice in the matter. I couldn’t allow him to do what he had his mind set to do. I now when his memory returns of what I did; he’s going to be just as upset with me, as he is with his aunt for what she did to him.
“There’s really no easy resolution to this matter,” I heard behind me as I turned around see my sister, the person responsible for all of this madness in the first place.
“You, how did you get here to Limbo?” I asked as she frowned.
“I thought you would’ve asked why was I here, not how I got here,” she said as I shook my head.
“There’s no reason for you being here. You’ve caused enough problems as it is,” I said as she shook her head.
“I wasn’t trying to cause a problem my brother,” she said as I sighed.
“What in the hell were you trying to do then?” I asked as she looked down.
“I was trying to save his eternal soul,” she replied as I turned my back to her and then turned around quickly, not knowing if she would try something stupid with me too.
“There’s nothing wrong with his soul,” I said as she looked at me strangely. “If there were something so wrong with him, do you think the Elders would put so much faith in him and…”
“He’s a chosen one, just like the rest of us,” she said as I shook my head again.
“Yes, he’s a chosen one and yet you used your powers against him!” I snapped as she looked up at me as if I had slapped her. “You took his powers away and almost allowed some damn mortal to kill him!”
“That’s not…” she said, stepping backwards as the castle walls shook.
“Why did you do that to him? Had I remained on the mortal plane with you all, would you have done the same thing to me?” I asked as she looked around quickly as the castle walls continued rumbling.
“I—I don’t know the answer to that,” she replied, looking down again. “I don’t know what I would’ve done in regards to you.”
“Then why in the hell did you have to do it to him?” I asked. “Do you know how hard his life has been without your damn meddling?”
“I—I wasn’t meddling in his life,” she spoke up as I shook my head as she looked around again as the creatures of the castle grumbled.
“Where should I start woman?” I asked as she looked at me as I waved my hand at the scrying glass as it glowed brightly.
“What are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m showing you what your meddling has done over the years to cause a big problem,” I said as she looked at me strangely. “I may not be on the mortal plane with the rest of you, but I do see what you do.”
“What are you talking about?” She asked.
“Let’s start here,” I said as the images in the mirror stopped flashing, showing an image of one of my boy’s best friends. “Strike one, you used your powers on his best friend to cause a problem in the lives of others.”
“You have to be a bit clearer than that. Who’s that in the mirror?” She asked, looking at me as if I were crazy.
“Okay, play crazy then,” I said as she shook her head. “You cast a spell on Hank Hart and made him assume the form of Timmy. You used your powers, playing with his mind, actually making him think he was Timmy for a time. You had that lil white boy doing all sorts of things with other men while he looked and acted like Timmy. Hank’s actions led Kevin to believe that Timmy was sleeping around with other men, which led to the problems that developed between the two of them. That mess screwed Timmy’s mind up so much that he broke the Elders’ rules and went back in time to see what actually happened. In the process of him investigating in the past, he made a mistake somewhere and things changed, which rewrote the present, changing Kevin’s name from James Jack to Kevin James.”
“I—I had nothing to do with that, you’re lying… You’re wrong!” She snapped as I shook my head and then waved my hand at the mirror as the images changed, showing her casting the spell on Hank as her expression changed.
“Am I wrong now?” I asked as she looked down.
“Strike two,” I said as she sighed. “Danielle Drake, Mara Drake’s daughter from an alternate future. Why in the hell did you conjure that evil charlatan whore from the whole in time she came from?”
“Who are you referring to?” She asked as I shook my head, snapping my fingers as the images on the mirror’s reflection changed.
“That’s who I’m referring to!” I snapped as the castle walls shook and rumbled again. “You allowed that tramp to come back to the past and she did nothing but cause problems for Timmy and his friends. Do you know the actual hell she created for him and his friends?”
“I did no such thing,” she stated as I shook my head, snapping my fingers again as the images in the mirror changed, showing an image of her as the person she had summoned from the future emerged from a time portal.
“You allowed that vixen to come back to the past and trick him into thinking that she was Mara. Everyone thought that Danielle was Mara for over a year, before she slipped up and was figured out when Timmy used his psychic powers against her,” I explained as she had this blank look on her face. “The stuff that lil tramp did to him and his friends wasn’t a pretty sight. The things she did, a teenager shouldn’t have to experience.”
“That wasn’t my fault, I can’t control what a person does when…” she said as I shook my head and held up my hand, stopping her from saying more.
“Okay then, what about the Sword of Legions?” I asked as she closed her mouth. “Ah, I see I have your attention now.”
“He—he wasn’t ready for that,” she said, looking down again. “He would’ve destroyed this planet if he held onto that sword for too long.”
“So, to keep him from mastering it, like his destiny says he must, you go back in time, find it before he does and hurls it into Limbo, where it was lost for millennia; only to be found by the souls of this realm and corrupted with their energy, which in turn, changed his destiny,” I stated as she shook her head.
“No no, that wasn’t supposed to happen,” she said.
“What did you think would happen to the world, having it be here and not where it was supposed to be woman? How would he find it here and learn to use it to save the lives he was meant to save? Because of your actions, he mastered the powers of Limbo a little bit too late!” I screamed as the castle walls rumbled. “Because of your damn actions, countless lives were ruined!”
“Stop this! Stop this right now!” She screamed as her eyes glowed.
“Sorry sister, this is my domain, I rule here, not you,” I said, floating off the floor as chains flew at her from multiple directions, grabbing her and wrapping her up. “Because of your actions, your meddling in the life of my boy, I had to erase his memory and heart of the hatred you created! I sent him back to Earth, recycled! What’s happening to him is all your fault!”
“No! Let me go!” She screamed as I floated above her as my magical chains held her tight.
“No my sister, I am not going to let you go. I’m going to leave you locked up here in Limbo,” I said, turning away from her. “You’ll stay here until there’s a resolution to what you’ve done!”
“Divine!” She screamed as the castle walls rumbled again. “Divine! Might of…”
“We won’t be having any of that!” I screamed as I held out my hand in her direction. “Ankh! Egyptian Cruxata!”
“No!” She screamed out as I used my powers to seal her mouth, not allowing her to speak.
“As I was saying, until I find a way to fix things with my boy, you will remain here so you won’t cause any more trouble for him or anyone else,” I said, floating down to the mirror, snapping my fingers as an image showed of my boy as he lies in bed, crying in the place that I had put him, tricking him into thinking that he had no powers and the life he’s led has been nothing but a dream. How am I going to fix this problem that she created, that I’ve helped her make worse?
“My liege… there seems to be a mystical occurrence that involves the Prince of this Realm,” the spirit of the mirror spoke as I turned around to look to see was my sister where I left her.
“What kind of mystical occurrence?” I asked as the reflection in the mirror changed, showing my boy in Jacksonville with one of his friends and he’s fighting. “What in… That’s not possible. My boy isn’t there in Jacksonville, he’s where I put him.”
“My liege, that is the essence of the Prince of this Realm,” the spirit of the mirror spoke again. “The mystical occurrence tied to that essence is channeling chaos magic and warping the spiritual plane of the Earth, creating multiple variances in the plane.”
“How did that happen? How did this essence take on the form of the Prince?” I asked.
“That query is unknown my liege,” the spirit of the mirror replied as I looked around, checking to see that my sister was still where I had left her as I waved my hand at the mirror to see that my boy was still where I had placed him. “I guess this means I’m going to find out what this essence is.”
“I advise against that my liege,” the spirit of the mirror spoke.
“Why is that?” I asked.
“You would become susceptible to the effects of the chaos magic that the essence is channeling,” the spirit of the mirror spoke again. “Your spirit could become corrupted and you would become Necroloque…”
“I’ll find a way around that,” I said, waving my hand in the air, creating a portal to take me to that thing so I could get to the bottom of why that thing was pretending to be my boy.
Mar 15, 1996 – Downtown Jacksonville, FL
“Ha ha ha!” JT laughed, flying past A’Mora as he threw a sphere of energy at her, knocking her off the earth-slide she stood upon. “Hear me X-Ternals, no longer am I the man that you knew and loved, I am forever Chaos! Beware, for I will kill you all!”
“What in the hell is up with all of this shit?” Barbara asked, projecting beams of ice at JT, missing him.
“Silly woman, do you really think your ice can stop me?” JT asked, laughing again as he flew past Barbara, zapping her with a bolt of energy, knocking her off of her ice-slide as she fell to the ground, her body shattering into small pieces of ice.
“Oh no, that doesn’t look good at all!” Andy Claybourne said as he stopped in place. “Something’s wrong with him, I can’t reach him telepathically.”
“Have you ever been able to reach him telepathically before Speedster?” Hank asked, flying past Andy as A’Mora appeared next to him. “Has anyone been able to find Donna yet?”
“I haven’t heard from Donna, Telly or Paul,” Andy replied, looking up. “Has any of you?”
“Telly, you near?” Hank asked, tapping a button on his communicator.
“I’m right here buddy,” Telly replied, appearing in a strange phenomenon in mid-air. “I got Golem with me, but he’s not feeling so hot right now. Is Barbara okay, is she going to reform or what?”
“I can’t answer about Barbara right now. What’s wrong with him?” Hank asked, looking at Telly.
“I don’t know if you’ve noticed this or not, but JT isn’t acting normal right now and that should be the question on everybody’s mind,” Telly stated, looking at Hank strangely.
“How am I supposed to fight him?” Paul Stanton asked, looking at Hank. “I’m just an ordinary guy in a robotic suit of armor.”
“Do your best my friend, that’s all any of us can ask,” Hank stated as Telly and Paul disappeared and then reappeared on the ground.
“What in the hell are we going to do? This is JT here!” Laura Lynn screamed, running past as she threw an explosive energy sphere at JT. “He’s one of us!”
“He was one of us, now he’s the evil doer!” Hank yelled, flying past as he grabbed Laura by her hand, carrying her through the air. “Team two, come on through!”
“This hit and run shit isn’t working Onyx,” Laura stated as she and Hank streaked through the sky.
“What do you expect us to do here Plastyque?” Hank asked as the two of them floated in mid-air. “He’s more powerful than all of us put together. How do we stop someone with the powers of a god?”
“Hah, your guess is good as mine,” Laura replied as JT appeared in front of the two of them, waving his hand as waves of telekinetic might knocked her and Hank down to the ground. “Damn it… How are we going to stop a telepath that knows our every move?”
“You can’t!” JT screamed, appearing down on the ground in front of Hank and Laura as he smiled evilly as he waved his hand, using his powers to slam both of them against a wall.
“Damn it! Has anyone been able to find Donna?” Hank asked, leaning up on his elbows as he rubbed at his head as he looked over at Laura.
“Donna shouldn’t be your main concern right now,” the two of them heard as JT smiled as his hand crackled with energy.
“It shouldn’t be your concern either,” the three of them heard as Hank got up in a hurry as JT disappeared.
“Celeste, what are you doing here?” Hank asked, moving over to the woman. “Is there something wrong?”
“Oh yeah, there’s something very wrong,” the woman replied as she looked at Hank closely. “The fate of the planet is at stake at this very moment.”
“Oh great… There’s something else to worry about,” Laura stated, walking over to where Hank and the woman stood.
“If I remember correctly, you said you would never appear, appear here, unless there was something happening that threatens the planet,” Hank stated.
“And that’s why I’m here right now,” the woman stated, waving her hand as there were multiple flashes of light as different X-Ternals’ members appeared.
“What in the hell is going on?” Telly asked, appearing as he looked around. “We were getting ready to drop down on JT when we vanished and then appeared here. What the hell happened?”
“I brought you here,” the woman stated as Telly shook his head.
“I should’ve known… Malaphyion, why are you here?” Telly asked, looking around at the others near him. “Are you here to tell us that there’s some drastic thing happening to the universe right now? If so, take a damn number, we’re already knee deep in shit of our own. We’re currently fighting a fool and now she has something new for us. I’m not into it lady!”
“Don’t listen to his rants and ravings Celeste,” A’Mora stated, looking at the woman. “Why are you here though? What can be happening, bigger than what we’re dealing with right now?”
“What’s happening is chaos. Chaos has been released into the world,” the woman identified as Celeste spoke. “If that chaos isn’t stopped and put back where it belongs, this world will surely end.”
“Well it’s very funny that you mention that,” Hank said, shaking his head. “JT’s now calling himself Chaos.”
“What? Oh no,” Celeste stated, looking down at her hand, looking at an image there. “If that’s the case, he’s ben inhabited by the spirit of Chaos.”
“That’s just what we fucking need right now!” Telly yelled, shaking his head again. “How are we going to stop him?”
“There isn’t a way to stop him,” Celeste replied, looking down.
“There has to be a way to stop him and to make things right,” A’Mora stated, frowning as she shook her head.
“Regardless of what’s going on right now, I think he’s done something to Donna,” Hank stated as he looked up at Celeste. “No one knows where she is.”
“Why is that?” Celeste asked, looking at Hank strangely.
“Probably because she would’ve been able to telepathically sense that something was wrong with him,” Hank stated, punching his hand into the nearest tree. “She’s the only one of us that is a good enough telepath like he is that could…”
“I don’t think that’s the case Hank,” A’Mora stated, looking around. “Andy could’ve easily used his telepathy to detect that there was something wrong with…”
“No he couldn’t, he hasn’t been around lately,” Hank stated, glaring at A’Mora. “He’s been at home, brooding about things he change!”
“Cut it out Hank, we don’t have time for that,” A’Mora stated, sighing as she looked over at Celeste. “Regardless of that, Andy could’ve used his telepathy to detect if something was wrong with JT and so could Wanda, myself or Kayla. Donna isn’t the only one of us with an affinity to detect when something is amiss around with the psychic world.”
“But Donna is the only one of us that is able to use her telepathic abilities on a level that rivals JT’s powers,” Hank stated as he looked over at A’Mora, waiting for her to say more. “When it comes to psychics on his team, it’s JT and Donna that reign supreme in that area.”
“You have a point, but there are other means of detecting…” A’Mora stated as Hank shook his head, interrupting her again.
“We don’t have time for this argument!” Hank snapped, turning around. “I think we need to get back to HQ and figure out what we’re going to do to solve things with JT and this so-called chaos that has been released into the world.”
“Yea, we need to tend to our wounded also,” A’Mora said as she glared at Hank as she and Andy walked towards where Barbara lay on the ground.
