To Protect and Serve – Chapter 3

Chapter 3 — Moves Made

Aug 5, 1995 – Dallas, TX – An Unnamed Hotel – Joey’s Hotel Room

“Well, there you are.  I was wondering where you were.  I thought you had abandoned me or something,” Joey said as JT walked into the room and then closed the door.

“No, I haven’t abandoned you.  I was just outside with the others, having a security meeting for the upcoming concert.  Is anything wrong Joey?”  JT asked.

“No, I was just a little bit worried is all.  I woke up and you were not in your bed.  Don’t you guys sleep?” Joey said with a small smile at JT.

“Yeah we sleep, but after you guys got back from the club last night, I decided we needed to go ahead and go over the security plans for the upcoming concert, so that we can do a good job of protecting you guys,” JT said with a smile.

‘I don’t remember going out to the club, I thought I was here at the hotel the whole night.  Maybe—maybe I did drink a lot tonight,’ Joey thought as he looked down.  “Well good.  Do what you can to keep us protected.  I don’t want anyone trying to get to us.  I don’t need any hassles right now in my life.  I have way too much to think about.”

“Are you okay Joey?  You seem like you have a lot on your mind,” JT spoke as he contemplated reading Joey’s mind, but decided against it.

“I can’t tell you that right now.  Maybe some time in the future, but not right now.  I need to actually feel like I can trust you with more than just my life, before I tell you what’s on my mind,” Joey stated.

“That’s okay Joey; I understand how you feel about that.  If you ever feel that you need to talk to me about anything, my ears and mid are always open,” JT stated as he headed towards the bathroom.

“Thanks JT, I’ll keep that in mind.  I’m going back to bed.  Hopefully I can get rid of this headache before breakfast.  Goodnight or morning JT,” Joey stated as he walked back to the bedroom.

“Yeah, good morning Joey,” JT said as he closed the bathroom door and then sighed.

Almost 5 AM – Lance and Hank’s Hotel Room

‘I don’t know why I always get upset like this.  If Lance doesn’t like me, that’s just fine.  There are other guys out there in the world that would.  This crush thing has gone on for far too long.  Since All Star hit the charts, I became a fan and fell in love with Lance, but now that I’m here with him, I don’t know… maybe he’s not the guy for me after all,’ Hank thought as he ran his hand through his hair.

“Who’s out there?  What’re you doing in this room?!”  Lance yelled as Hank jumped up from where he sat.

“Lance, it’s me Hank, your bodyguard,” Hank replied.

“Hank, my bodyguard?  I don’t have a bodyguard named Hank.  Who are you?”  Lance asked.

‘Oh God, I think JT erased too much of his memory.  He doesn’t remember who I am,’ Hank thought as he looked around with a worried look on his face as he moved backwards, heading towards the door.  “Come on Lance, you chose me to be your bodyguard earlier tonight at the end of the concert, while you guys were still at the venue in your dressing room.”

“You’re not my bodyguard!”  Lance snapped as he walked closer to Hank with a straight face, scaring Hank.  “You’re my friend Hank.”

“Huh,” Hank said with a confused look on his face.

“Got’cha… Wow, I thought you were going to turn and run.  You don’t have a sense of humor, do you?”  Lance asked, standing in front of Hank.

“You—you played a joke on me?  How could you scare me that way?  I—I thought… I almost had a heart attack!”  Hank snapped as the tears fell from his eyes as Lance looked at him strangely.

“Hank, what’s wrong, why are you crying?”  Lance asked as he grabbed Hank’s hand and then pulled him over to the sofa to sit down.

“Nothing’s wrong, I—I’m going to take a shower and then I’m heading to bed,” Hank replied as he hopped up from the sofa and then rushed into the bathroom.

“Hank please… Would you tell me what’s wrong, I—I was only joking with you.  I wasn’t trying to hurt you.  Please don’t walk away from me, not like this,” Lance pleaded, walking over to the bathroom door.

“No Lance, just leave me be.  I don’t want to get into this at all, just let me handle this by myself,” Hank stated as he tried to close the bathroom door as Lance stopped the door from closing completely.

“No Hank, if you’re hurt by something I did, I want us to discuss it.  I don’t want to hurt or make you feel hurt around me,” Lance stated as he started crying.

“Lance, just don’t.  I just want to get my shower and head to bed.  I can’t get into this… I won’t go into this, not now, not tonight,” Hank said as he forcefully closed the bathroom door.

“Hank… please!”  Lance yelled as he opened the bathroom door as he saw Hank’s image shift a bit.  “Hank, what just happened to you?”

“Nothing happened, why are you refusing to leave me alone, so I can get my shower and then go to bed?”  Hank asked, trying to avoid looking at Lance.

“Hank, something just happened to your face.  What was that?  It looked as if your face had faded away and then came back,” Lance stated as he moved over to where Hank stood in front of the shower stall as he placed his hands on his cheeks and then pulled his face close to meet his and then kissed his lips.

“Lance, why did you do that?  Why do you want to make this harder than it already is?”  Hank asked in a barely audible voice as he rushed out of the bathroom and then ran into the bedroom, slamming the door shut.

“Oh great, just great Lance.  Look what you’ve gone and done,” Lance said as he slid down to the floor, crying harder.

Joshua and Tyler’s Hotel Room

Joshua’s POV

“Hello, who’s this?”  I asked into the phone, wondering who would be calling here at this time of night.

“It’s me Lance, I need to talk to you.  Can I come over there or can we go somewhere and talk?  It’s really important,” I heard Lance say as I could also hear him sniffling.

“Have you been crying?”  I asked.

“Yeah, kinda.  I need to talk to you in person.  If I can’t talk to you, I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said as I shook my head.

“Okay Lance, come on over to my room.  I’ll let you in and we can talk,” I said as I slid out of bed and looked over to see that Tyler was asleep.

Joey and JT’s Hotel Room

‘Hank, what have you done?  I told you not to get upset, that things would be alright in the morning.  What could’ve possibly happened between the two of you so quickly?’  JT telepathically asked Hank.

‘He… he played a joke on me and then he kissed me.  Before he kissed me, I… I accidentally shifted to someone else and back to me, but he saw it,’ Hank mentally said as he wiped at his eyes.

‘Where is Lance right now Hank?’  JT telepathically asked as his eyes glowed.

‘He went over to Joshua and Tyler’s room to talk to Joshua about whatever that had his mind racing,’ Hank said as he moved around in the bathroom.

“JT, are you okay?  Is there something wrong?”  Joey asked.

“No, there’s nothing wrong, everything is okay Joey,” JT replied as Joey raised an eye at him.  “Okay, I have a headache that I can’t get rid of and I’m just a bit sore and stiff.”

“Why are you sore and stiff?  You must’ve done a lot of booty shakin’ at the concert last night,” Joey said and then giggled as he shook his head.

“I must have.  My neck is killing me also.  I better take it easy and not shake my booty too much,” JT said as he got up and then walked into the other room.

“Hey, wait up JT.  Would you like me to give you a back massage?”  Joey asked, following JT into the other room.

“I—I don’t know about that,” JT replied as he looked down.

“I’m really good at it,” Joey said as he looked at JT closely as JT sat down on the sofa.  “It’ll make you feel a whole lot better.”

“Ah, sure okay.  It’s not like you can hurt me more… Besides, I may like it,” JT said as he smiled at Joey.

“Yeah, you just might like it,” Joey said as he leaned over JT’s body and unbuttoned his shirt.  “Why don’t you lay down on the sofa JT.”

“Okay,” JT responded as Joey slowly removed the shirt from his body as he lay down face first on the sofa.  “This okay?”

“Yeah, just fine,” Joey replied as he knelt next to the sofa, hovering over JT’s body on the couch.  “Perfect.”

Joey began to softly and gently rub JT’s back.  Eliciting a moan from JT, Joey knew he was doing a good job.  With each touch of his hand to JT’s skin, Joey felt a spark of pleasure travel from his hands to his brain and from his brain to his cock.  Looking down, Joey noticed that he was highly aroused touching JT.  After about a half hour of rubbing and touching JT’s skin, Joey couldn’t control himself any longer and allowed his feelings to get the better of him.  Joey leaned down and pressed his lips against JT’s lips, kissing him.

“Joey stop!  What in the hell are you doing?!”  JT screamed, jumping up from the sofa quickly as he held out his hand as Joey froze in place.  “Oh God, what in the hell is going on?  He—he kissed me.  He kissed me.  Oh God, I telepathically froze him too  I have to undo that before he notices that I moved from where I was.”

“I—I’m sorry, I’m soooo sorry.  I don’t know what came over me.  I don’t know what possessed me to do that,” Joey stated as he got up and looked at JT strangely as someone knocked on the door.

“Joey!  JT!  Is everything okay in there?”  Chris’ voice could be heard on the other side of the door.

“Everything’s okay in here, everything’s fine,” JT replied as he looked around.

“Can I come in to be sure?”  Chris asked.

“I’m sorry JT, please don’t say anything about this, please, oh please.  I’ll do anything, just keep this between us,” Joey pleaded.

“Just let Chris in so he can look around and go back to sleep,” JT said as he motioned for Joey to go open the door as he grabbed his shirt and pulled it on quickly.

“Are you two okay in there?”  Chris asked as Joey opened the door and allowed him to walk into the room.  “I heard yelling.”

“I was having a bad dream and I woke up screaming.  I’m sorry for waking all of you up.  I didn’t realize I could scream that loud,” JT replied, noticing the other eight people in the hallway.

“Okay, I’m going back to bed now,” Chris said as he headed towards the door as the others looked into the room and then turned and headed back to their own rooms.

‘You don’t have to worry Joey, I’ll keep your secret, but on one condition.  You can’t do what you did tonight again,’ JT telepathically stated as Joey’s eyes widened.

Lance and Hank’s Hotel Room

Lance sat inconspicuously on the leather sofa in the main room that he shared with his new bodyguard, the cute Hank Hart.  His face was turned toward the windows so that Hank couldn’t see the tears as they spilled down his cheeks.  He needn’t had bothered hiding; however it seemed Hank was in his own little world.

Any other time, Lance would’ve been glad that no one noticed that he cried, but this time, he wanted Hank to notice, to know that he was hurt.  Now, after the small spat they had earlier in the night, Lance is afraid that he’s ruined things for himself in hopes that he could have found a good friend and possible lover in Hank.  Unaware of what was going on around him, Hank turned around to notice Lance.

“Lance—Lance, are you okay?”  Hank asked, moving over to the sofa to sit down next to Lance.

“I—I’m okay Hank.  Are you okay?  I—I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings with the joke I played.  I—I was only trying to break the ice between the two of us,” Lance stated with a frown on his face.  “I couldn’t think of anything else to do to pull you into my zany world of music and boredom, so I asked Joshua for some advice and he suggested that I do what I thought would get on your good side.  I thought a joke would’ve done it, but it seems I was wrong.  That strategy backfired.”

“Come on Lance, don’t cry.  Please Lance, please don’t cry.  If you cry, I’m going to start too.  I’ve been crying most of the night and I don’t think I can cry anymore,” Hank stated as Lance wiped at his tears.

“Please don’t be mad at me.  Please forgive me.  I—I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings,” Lance said as he tried to catch his breath.

“I’m not mad at you Lance.  I—I’m mad at myself for letting my feelings and emotions get the better of me.  I’m a bodyguard for Christ’s sake.  I’m not supposed to let this kind of stuff bother me,” Hank stated as Lance looked at him strangely.

“Let what kind of stuff bother you Hank?”  Lance asked.

At that moment, Hank froze in place because he didn’t know how to answer Lance’s question.  All Hank could think about doing was running away and hiding somewhere.  No matter what he thought about or concentrated on, the same thing popped up in his head, the fact that he liked, possibly even loved Lance.  Sighing, Hank knew regardless of what he did or tried to do, nothing would change the outlook on things.  The only problem that reared its head, he didn’t know how Lance felt, hell he didn’t know if Lance was gay or not.  A kiss is a kiss, it could’ve been just an innocent kiss…

Justin and Barbara’s Hotel Room

Justin’s POV

“But Roni…” I said, interrupted by my annoyingly jealous girlfriend Veronica.

“Don’t Roni me,” she said as I shook my head.

“Roni, she’s—she’s only the bodyguard,” I said, interrupted again.

“Why is she your bodyguard Justin?”  She sarcastically asked.

“I—I chose her because she’s married and has the same kind of personality as me,” I replied, being interrupted again.

“What kind of personality does she have?  Is she an easy access bitch for you to help you get your damn rocks off?  Is that it Justin?  Is that what she is?”  She asked as I shook my head, wondering when she was going to let me talk.  “I can’t believe you Justin Lake!  How dare you have a woman as your bodyguard!”

“There’s no reason for you to be jealous of her Roni,” I said, being interrupted again.

“I am not jealous!  I want to meet this bitch!”  She screamed.  “I want to meet her damn it!”

“Alright—alright already, you two can meet and fight it out or whatever you want to do.  I don’t want nothing to do with it,” I said, looking up to see that Barbara had walked back into the room.

“Fine, I’ll be seeing you soon,” she said as I closed the phone to hang it up, not really wanting to hear any more crap from her.

“What’s up Justy?  I assume that was the girlfriend,” Barbara stated, walking past me.  “I take it that she’s not happy that you have a female bodyguard, right?”

“Yeah, that’s it.  She’s been screaming since I told her about you last night,” I answered with a frown.  “I hung up on her then and she called me back this morning to continue where she left off.”

“If it’s going to cause a problem for you, I don’t think one of the others would mind trading with me,” Barbara stated as I shook my head.

“Nah, I like you.  I picked you to be my bodyguard because you have the same personality as me and you’re married.  I—I thought that maybe you could tell me how married life was, since I thought I was headed in that direction,” I said, looking down at my cell phone.

“Well, if at any time down the line that you feel this isn’t working out for you, let me and JT know so that we can work around this.  I don’t want to cause problems for you and Veronica.  From what I’ve seen and read, she seems like a nice and wonderful girl for you,” Barbara stated as she picked up her phone to make a call.

“Well she’s not being that way right now,” I said as Barbara looked at me strangely.  “Breakfast is what I want.  I must have breakfast.”

“Well you’re in luck.  Breakfast will be in Chris and Wanda’s room.  They’ve already ordered it and it’s on the way up,” she stated as I got up from the bed and walked towards the main door as she followed behind me.

Joey and JT’s Hotel Room

“Damn cell phone,” I said, rolling over on the bed as I grabbed the damn cell phone to answer it.  “Hello… Hello… Anyone there?”

“You know who this is.  Where are you right now JT?  I haven’t heard from you in a very long time.  What’s wrong with you?  I thought I was your boyfriend, but yet you just up and leave and it’s been six months already.  When are you coming back?”  I heard on the phone, not really recognizing the voice as I frowned.

“What is it that you want Marek, I am not your boyfriend.   I will never be your boyfriend.  Get it through your head and leave me alone.  Stop calling me.  The day you tried to turn me into a comatose weapon against my friends was the day that you lost any chance of having my love.  I suggest you stop bothering me, it’s getting you nowhere with me,” I said, wondering how he got this number.

“You can’t just get over me, like I can’t get over you babe,” he said as I shook my head.

“Well you better get over me because the only thing you’re going to get is a little closer to jail or maybe another dimension, depending on which mood you catch me in, if you make me mad enough.  Stop bothering me Marek.  The way you’re acting isn’t natural!”  I snapped and then closed the cell phone.

Damn it!  I didn’t need to hear from him.  I thought I was free of him, but I guess I’m not.  Why in the world did he call me?  He should already know that the rest of the team knows about what he tried to do to me.  Now that he’s made contact with me, I wonder is he working with Mitchell and his new friends or what.

Damn it, I can’t deal with this right now.  I have other problems here to deal with and I think I just made those problems worse.  I’m so used to being in a room by myself, that I forgot that Joey was in here with me.  He just heard that whole conversation and now I fear that the kiss we shared earlier this morning is going to come back to reality real soon to haunt me.

Joey’s POV

Yes, so there’s something there to work with.  I was getting the right vibe from him.  I wasn’t wrong in the way I felt… feel about him.  He’s gay, he’s really gay.  He has to be gay; he had a boyfriend named Marek.  There aren’t any girls I know with a name like Marek.  So he had a boyfriend, the guy screwed up and now he doesn’t have one.  He’s gay!  Now all I have to do is make another move to get him to be mine.

“Joey, hey Joey, wake up buddy, it’s time for breakfast.  God, these guys sleep like logs,” I heard JT say as he giggled and then poked me on the leg.  “Come on, you gotta get up.”

“I’m up, I’m up.  You don’t have to poke and prod me like that,” I said as he giggled again as I grabbed his finger and held it so he wouldn’t poke me with it again.

“Well get up already, it’s time for breakfast and everyone’s waiting.  You have a lot of things to do today.  From what Jon said, you guys have an interview at eleven, then you have a short photo shoot at one.  After that you guys have a meet and greet session with some fans.  Your day is full, so go ahead and get up so you can get a move on,” he said, giggling again as he shook his head as he grabbed the covers and then pulled them away from me.

“May I ask you a question JT?”  I asked, moving around on the bed and sitting up cross-legged.

“Sure, go right ahead,” he replied as he stopped what he was doing and then turned to face me.  “No, I won’t shoot and kill your childhood bully for you either.  Jon and a few others told me about that joke you pulled on the other security guards in the past.”

“No, that’s not my question JT.  I—I wanted to know how you spoke to me in my head this morning.  How did I heard your voice in my mind the way I did?”  I asked, looking at him, wondering how that happened.

“What are you talking about Joey?”  He asked, looking at me as if I had lost my mind or something.

“You know what I’m talking about JT.  I’m talking about what happened this morning when you told me that you would keep it secret of what I did… you know, the kiss, before Chris came in to check on things,” I said, trying to figure out if he was trying to play me or something.

“Are you still hungover Joey?  You did have a lot to drink last night when you guys went out to the…” he said as I shook my head and then held up my hand, stopping him.

“I’m not drunk JT and I’m not hungover!  I know what happened.  I am not crazy or anything!”  I snapped, throwing my hands up as he backed away from me.

“You are the one that just said that you heard my voice in your mind.  I call it like I see it.  If you heard my voice in your head, you were either dreaming, drunk or either you are losing your mind.  Take your pick,” he said as he looked at me with a strange look on his face.

“Fine JT, just fine.  If you want to play it that way, go right ahead.  I know something strange happened and it centers around you.  I’m going to find out what it is,” I said, walking into the bathroom and closing the door so I could get ready for my long ass day.

To Be Continnued…
