When The Glitter Turns Gold – Chapter 3

Chapter 3 — Who Did It?

Jun 7, 2004 – Jacksonville, FL (Arlington Suburb) – The Apartment of Joshua Raymond

Joshua’s POV

Wow, the last couple of days have been mind-blowing.  My brother—my twin brother is the famous JT Poole of the singing group ‘Mutual Attraction’.  That’s a whole lot to take in, all at once.  I can’t believe I’ve found my family after so long.  Why am I just now finding them?  Why couldn’t I have found them sooner?

“Josh, are you okay bro?”  My brother, the guy I’ve known as my brother for the most part of my life asked as I looked up at him as I could see the concern in his eyes.

“I—I’m okay,” I replied as he stepped closer to me.

“Are you sure Josh?”  He asked as I nodded my head.  “You’ve seen and heard some things over the past few…”

“I know, but I think—I think I can handle it all,” I replied as he leaned in and gave me a hug.  “I—I feel conflicted… I just don’t know how to feel right now.”

“Is that because of your brother?”  He asked as I looked down.

“My brother, my real biological brother is a famous singer that just got married to another famous singer, which happens to be a man,” I said as he frowned.

“Are—are you okay with your brother being gay?”  He asked.

“I—I don’t know,” I replied as he sighed.  “No Brad, I know what you’re thinking… My feelings have nothing to do with…”

“Are you sure about that Josh?”  He asked as I looked up at him.

“My feelings aren’t because of what happened to me when I was younger,” I said as he looked at me as I felt the tears sliding down my face.

“Then why are you crying right now Josh?”  He asked as I sniffled and then used the sleeve of my shirt to wipe at my eyes.

“Because—because I don’t know what to feel right now,” I replied as he hugged me again.

“What’re you going to do bro?”  He asked.  “What do you want to do?”

“I want to have a relationship with my brother and—and his new family, but I—I’m scared—scared that something bad will happen if I allow…” I said as Brad interrupted me.

“Do you think your brother would do something to hurt you?”  He asked.

“I—I don’t think he will, but…” I said as Brad interrupted me.

“This is your brother Josh, your real brother,” he said as I looked down.  “This has nothing to do with Uncle Walden.”

“That’s your uncle, not mine!”  I snapped as he frowned and then backed away from me.  “I—I’m sorry Brad.”

“No, I’m sorry,” he said as he turned around.  “I—I think I better go.”

“Don’t leave Brad, I—I need you,” I said as he turned and looked at me.

“No, you need your real family right now,” he said as he walked over to the door, opened it and then walked out.

Damn it, I wasn’t trying to hurt his feelings or make him feel bad.  I thought he knew that talking about Walden was a touchy subject with me.  His uncle caused a lot of grief in my life and I’m not going to bring that madness back into my life.  I’m not about to associate that evil man and the things he did to me with my brother.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – Saint Michael’s Hospital – Ken’s ICU Room

“So, this is where you’ve been hiding for the last few days,” JT said as he and Caleb walked into the room to see Ken lying in bed. “Are you okay man?”

“JT, Caleb, what are you two doing here?”  Ken weakly asked.

“No Ken, what happened to you?  What are you doing here in the hospital?  You’ve been missing for a few days now, with no word of where you’ve been until today,” JT stated as he folded his arms across his chest.

“I—I’m okay JT, really I am,” Ken stated as JT shook his head.

“Caleb, I need you to go sit outside, in the waiting area with Justin,” JT told the little boy as Caleb waved at Ken and then left the room as JT requested.  “Okay Ken, what in the hell is going on around here?  You’re laid up in the damn hospital and from what I found out from the RCMPs, you either fell from the balcony of your hotel room or you were pushed.  So Ken, tell me what in the hell is going on around here.”

“I—I don’t want to talk about this JT,” Ken replied as JT shook his head again and then threw his hands up as he turned around.  “It’s not a big deal…”

“Why do I get the feeling that some foul play is going on…” JT spoke as Ken lifted his hand, stopping him.

“Listen JT, I don’t want to talk about this!”  Ken snapped as the tears streamed down his face as the heart monitor beeped loudly and then an alarm sounded in the room as JT looked around as a few nurses rushed into the room.

“What’s going on in here?”  One of the nurses asked as another nurse pushed JT backwards, almost knocking him down as she made her way over to Ken.

“I need help here, he’s crashing!”  One of the nurses screamed as JT covered his mouth.

“Oh God,” JT said as a nurse grabbed him by his arm, pulling him out of the room as a doctor rushed into the room and started working with Ken.  “What’s happening to him?  What are you people doing?”

“Sir, they are trying to save him.  Stay out of the way,” a nurse spoke as another doctor rushed into the room as JT turned around to see a police officer standing there, watching things.

“Are you the man that’s with the gentlemen in there?”  The police officer asked as JT looked at the man strangely.

“I am a friend of his,” JT replied as the man turned and nodded his head and then motioned with his hand as two other police officers approached him.

“Sir, I think you need to come with us,” the police officer stated as JT looked at the man as if he were crazy.

“You think I need to go with you for what,” JT said as the man frowned.

“You need to come with us, down to the station,” the police officer replied.

“And yet you haven’t told me the reasons why,” JT stated as he shook his head and then laughed.

“Fine then,” the police officer stated.  “What’s your name sir?”

“JT,” JT replied.

“JT what sir,” the police officer said as he watched JT.

“Poole,” JT replied as the police officer smiled.

“JT Poole, you are hereby under arrest,” the police officer stated as he grabbed JT forcefully by his arm, spun him around and then pushed him against the wall, placing the handcuffs on his wrists quickly as JT struggled a bit.

“What in the hell is going on here?  What am I under arrest for?”  JT asked as the police officer pushed him backwards against the wall.

“You’re under arrest for the attempted murder of Kenneth Hampton,” the police officer replied as JT’s eyes widened.

“What!  Are you fucking crazy?  I didn’t try to kill Ken!”  JT screamed as Justin rushed into the area.

“Baby, what’s going on here?  Hey, let go of him!”  Justin demanded as the police officer looked at him.  “What in the hell are you guys doing?”

“He’s under arrest right now and I suggest you be quiet before you join him,” the police officer stated.

“He’s under arrest for what?  What did he do?”  Justin asked, looking at the officer.

“That’s none of your concern,” the officer stated.

“It is my concern, he’s my husband,” Justin stated as the officer looked at him and then back at JT.

“He said I’m under arrest for trying to murder Ken,” JT stated as Justin’s eyes widened.

“What!  Why would he do something like that?  Ken’s his friend and the uncle of his son,” Justin stated as the police officer looked at Justin strangely.  “There’s no reason for him wanting to murder Ken.”

“Don’t worry about me Justin, just take care of Caleb,” JT stated as the officer turned around and then directed JT to walk down the hall.  “Take care of Caleb and call my lawyer!”

A Pub Down the Street from the Hotel Victoria

Chris’ POV

Alright, my plan has been put into motion and all I have to do now is sit around and wait.  Once Justin sees that his so-called porch monkey lover is a damn murderer, he’ll abandon his wants of being with that piece of shit and be free for the taking, mainly my taking.  This is my last resort to get him to see the error of his ways.  I thought with all the shit that nigger put him through in the past, he would know better than to get mixed up in a damn marriage to him.  What in the hell happened to him, to make him turn against his own kind?  Where did Lynda and Paul go wrong with him?

Damn, what’s taking the police so long to do their damn jobs?  When I talked with that damn fuck up, what’s his name, yeah, that fool named Lawrence Hudson a few hours ago, I gave him all the information he needed to lock that mutherfucker up.  Being that it’s late in the evening, I have yet to see any news footage about that nigger being arrested for trying to murder his so-called ex-lover.  All it took was for me to provide the police with information that there was a relationship between that nigger and the so-called victim and bam, that kicked things up a notch.

“I bet both of them thought they were free of me, but I’m not done yet,” I said, taking a sip of my drink.  “When I’m done, that nigger will never see the light of day again.”

Finishing off my drink, I paid the bartender and then walked out.  It looks like things are finally working in the right direction.  Pretty soon, things will fall into place and I’ll finally have Justin in my life, where he belongs.  There won’t be no interference from that nigger and nobody else.  Hell, Lynda would give anything for her baby boy to get away from that nigger and I aim to make that happen.

Two Hours Later – Toronto Police Service – The Holding Area

“Hello, when am I going to get to speak to someone about why I’m here?”  JT asked as he walked over to the door as a police officer directed him back to his seat.  “My rights are being violated right now!”

“Your rights aren’t being violated.  We have the right to hold you up to twenty-four hours to finish our investigation,” a police officer stated.

“No you don’t!  I haven’t done anything that warrants me being in jail right now!”  JT snapped as another man walked through the door.

“Well good evening Mr. Poole,” a tall white man spoke as he walked over to the table and then sat down.  “Go on, have a seat Mr. Poole.”

“I don’t want to have a seat… I want to get back to my son and my husband,” JT replied.

“Yes, I’m sure you do,” the man said as he smiled at JT.  “Congratulations.”

“Yeah whatever man,” JT said as he shook his head and then looked at the man.  “Why am I here?  I didn’t do anything to Ken; he’s one of my best friends.”

“First, let me start by introducing myself,” the man said as JT raised an eye at him.  “My name is Lawrence Hudson.”

“Okay Lawrence Hudson, why am I here right now?  I shouldn’t be here.  I didn’t do anything to Ken,” JT stated as the man frowned.

“You’re here right now because the investigators at the scene of the crime, recovered your fingerprints from the balcony railing,” Lawrence Hudson stated.

“Duh,” JT said as he shook his head.  “This is bullshit.  Of course they found my fingerprints, we’re friends.  I just got those very words out of my mouth.  My fingerprints were found in his hotel room because we are close friends and he’s been keeping my son.”

“Mr. Poole, you’re not grasping the reality of things,” Lawrence Hudson stated as he looked at JT again, directing him to sit down.

“What is it that I’m not grasping man?”  JT asked as he took a seat at the table and then looked at the man like he was crazy.

“Your fingerprints were found in the area where Mr. Hampton possibly fell from,” Lawrence Hudson stated as JT’s eyes widened.

“Wait a minute, are you fools trying to say that I pushed him from the balcony of his hotel room?”  JT asked as the man nodded his head.  “What reason would I have for pushing him from the balcony?”

“That’s why you’re here right now,” Lawrence Hudson replied as JT shook his head.

“I have no reason to push Ken over a damn railing of a balcony,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “What’s my damn motive for doing something like that?”

“You just said he had been keeping your son,” Lawrence Hudson stated as he looked at JT strangely.  “Why was he keeping your son?”

“I—I…” JT stuttered and then looked down.

“Well Mr. Poole, aren’t you going to answer the question?”  Lawrence Hudson asked as JT sighed.  “Did I touch a sore spot in the demeanor of the famous JT Poole?  Yes, I know who you are.”

“I didn’t do anything wrong here,” JT stated as he looked at the man.  “You people arrested me for no reason.  I didn’t do anything to Ken; I have no reasons to hurt him.”

“Are you sure of that?”  Lawrence Hudson asked as he smiled at JT.  “Do you blame him for his sister’s actions?”

“What!”  JT snapped as he hopped up from the table.

“Sit down Mr. Poole,” Lawrence Hudson instructed as he pointed at the chair.

“What’s going on here?  What’s the real reason I’m here for?”  JT asked as he looked around.

“As I told you, you’re here because your fingerprints were found at the scene of the crime,” Lawrence Hudson stated as he pointed at the chair again.  “That’s the reason you’re here right now.”

“As I told you, I didn’t do anything!”  JT snapped as he threw his hands up.  “This is…”

“This is us trying to figure out what happened on that balcony,” Lawrence Hudson stated.

“I don’t know what happened on the balcony with Ken, that’s something you would have to ask him,” JT stated.

“Since Mr. Hampton isn’t in the condition to talk, we’re asking you,” Lawrence Hudson stated.  “There were only two sets of identifiable latent fingerprints at the scene, there on that railing, yours and his.”

“We talked out on the balcony,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “I didn’t try to hurt Ken; there’s no reason for me hurting him.”

“There’s still the issue of what his sister did to you,” Lawrence Hudson stated as JT looked at him through squinted eyes.

“What do you know about what his sister did to me?”  JT asked, looking at the man.

“I know because she was recently arrested for her actions against you,” Lawrence Hudson stated as JT’s mouth dropped open.

“What do you mean she was recently arrested?  Arrested by who?”  JT asked.

“I’m not at liberty to say,” Lawrence Hudson stated with a smile.  “So, were you trying to hurt him because of what she did to you… Or did he try to hurt you because of his sister being arrested and you defended yourself from his attack and then he went over the railing?  Is that what happened Mr. Poole?”

“No!  That didn’t happen at all!”  JT snapped, shaking his head.  “I’m innocent, I haven’t done anything wrong.  Since I’ve been here in Canada, I’ve been in the presence of other people.  I haven’t been around Ken much at all.  There are tons of other people that can vouch for where I’ve been and what I’ve done.”

“Other people like who?”  Lawrence Hudson asked.

“The hotel security, my security team, my husband, my parents, my son, my husband’s friends, the minister that married us…” JT rambled on as the man held up his hand, stopping him.

“So, you’re saying that all the people you just named can vouch for your whereabouts since you’ve been here in Toronto?”  Lawrence Hudson asked as JT nodded his head.

“Call all of them, I’m going to prove my innocence in this matter,” JT stated as the man got up from the table.

“Okay then,” Lawrence Hudson stated as he smiled, turned around and then walked out of the room.  “I’ll be back later on.”

“I’m ready to leave this place right now!”  JT screamed as the man continued walking down the corridor, leaving him in the room alone with a police officer at the door, guarding him.

Hotel Victoria – JT and Justin’s Hotel Room

“Hey buddy,” Justin spoke as he walked back into the room with a tray of food.  “Are you doing okay buddy?”

“Where is my Daddy Justin?”  Caleb asked as he looked up at Justin.

“I’m sorry buddy, but he’s not here right now.  He—he’s still taking care of some business,” Justin replied as Caleb looked down with a sad expression on his face.

“So, my Daddy is just like my mommy too.  He doesn’t want to be here with me either,” Caleb stated as Justin looked at him strangely.

“What makes you say that buddy?”  Justin asked as he walked over to where Caleb sat on the bed and then knelt down in front of him.  “What makes you feel that way?”

“Mommy doesn’t want to be around me and Daddy doesn’t either, since he’s not here with me right now,” Caleb stated as he sniffled and then looked down again, averting his eyes from Justin’s.

“That’s not true buddy,” Justin replied as he ran his fingers through Caleb’s hair.  “Your Dad wants to be around you, but right now, he just can’t be.  He’s handling some busy work.”

“He—he’s been busy all day long Justin,” Caleb stated as the tears streamed down his face.

“I know buddy,” Justin replied as he hugged Caleb to his chest and rubbed his back, wondering when his husband would be back with them.

Toronto Police Service – The Holding Area

“Well hello again Mr. Poole,” Lawrence Hudson spoke as he walked into the room.

“And here we are again,” JT stated as he looked up at the man.  “Did you call to verify my whereabouts?”

“Yes, your whereabouts have been verified, but there is still an issue,” Lawrence Hudson stated.

“What issue?”  JT asked as he looked across the table at the man.  “You told me that I was here because I was suspected of hurting Ken, because my fingerprints were supposedly found at the scene of the so-called crime scene.  If my whereabouts have been verified, then I should be free to get the hell out of here!”

“You need to calm down Mr. Poole,” Lawrence Hudson stated.

“No, I need to get the hell up out of here!”  JT snapped as he pointed his finger at the man.  “You fools have held me here against my wishes, all damn day long.  My child is probably freaking out at this point!”

“Mr. Poole, you need to calm down,” Lawrence Hudson stated again.

“I’ll calm the hell down when I’m able to walk the hell up out of here,” JT stated as he shook his head.  “This is just madness and a violation of my rights!”

“The only madness here is your life Mr. Poole,” Lawrence Hudson stated as JT looked at him and then shook his head again.

“You know what, I’m done with this shit,” JT stated as he stood up.  “Either you fools release me to go home right now or…”

“Or I’ll go ahead and charge you with another crime and then arrest you for that,” Lawrence Hudson spoke as he stood up with a stern look on his face.  “Mr. Poole, you are hereby under arrest for the attempted murder of Kenneth Hampton.”

“I’m innocent and you fucking know it!  I didn’t do anything here!”  JT screamed as Lawrence Hudson motioned with his head as two men rushed into the room, grabbing JT and forcing him down on the table as Lawrence Hudson placed the handcuffs on his wrists.

“Go ahead and place him in a cell,” Lawrence Hudson stated as he turned and walked out of the room as the two officers picked JT up off his feet and carried him out of the room as he struggled to get free.

Los Angeles, CA – Falcon Studios – A TV Show Set/Lot

Mo’ette’s POV

I’ve been walking around this place for a whole damn hour and I have yet to find him.  Where in the hell could he be hiding?  When I got here, the security guy told me that he was on this lot, but I haven’t seen him yet.  Did that guy tell me the truth or what?  If I don’t find him soon, I’m going to just call it a damn day.  It’s hot out here and I’m not in the mood for all this damn sweating.

Giving myself a few more minutes, I spotted him and that damn ho, Emily Detton as they walked through a door from another set.  Finally, I get to find out what in the hell is going on with the two of us and why he hasn’t been returning any of my damn calls.  Whatever the hell is going on, the drama ends today.  Standing there, that damn ho pulled him close and then wrapped her arms around him, kissing him… That ho kissed him on his damn mouth.  What in the hell!  She actually kissed him!

“Oh hell naw!”  I snapped, walking towards the two of them as David turned around, noticing me as the expression on his face changed.

Yeah, his ass scared now.  Now her stupid ass don’ turned around and she has noticed me.  She has that damn look on her face, the one that makes her thinks she’s better than everybody.  I may have to tell her the truth today, she’s no better than anybody, she’s just common.

“Mo… Baby… Please don’t, wait… Maybe…” David stuttered as I shook my head.

“No, I have a song for the two of you,” I said, looking at him and then looking at her.  “Mainly for you though.”

“Oh God,” David said, shaking his head as he moved away from Emily quickly as I moved closer to her, grabbing her by the collar of her blouse.

“I’ve been watching you for long enough,” I sang as she looked at me, her eyes widening a bit.  “To know you’re making a play for the one I love.”

“Bitch, get your hands off of me!”  She yelled, struggling to get away from me, but my grip was firm and tight.

“Now I don’t blame you for looking, but you better not touch!”  I sang, pushing her backwards as she fell against the wall.

“Someone get security!”  She yelled, moving along the wall, trying to get away from me.

“Hands Off!”  I snapped, pointing my finger at her.  “He belongs to me!  Hands Off!  He’s my private property!  Hands Off!  I’ll tell you just one last time, this boy is mine!”

“Security!”  Emily screamed as people stood around watching us.

“I’m in no mood for competition.  I’ve got no time for playing games.  I have no intention of sharing him, with anyone else,” I sang, pointing my finger at her as she backed away from me.

“Sorry, but you’re too late,” she said as I shook my head, getting up in her face.

“Hands off!  He belongs to me!”  I snapped, slapping her in the face.  “Hands off!  He’s my private property!  Hands Off!  I’ll tell you one more last time, this boy is mine!”

“I don’t have to put up with this shit!”  She yelled as I grabbed her by the collar of her blouse again, holding her tight.

“Hands off!  He belongs to me!  Hands off, he’s my private property!  Hands off, I’ll tell you just one last time, the boy is mine!”  I exclaimed, moving my head as she shook hers.

“He’s not yours, he’s mine!”  She screamed as I smacked her in the face again, shutting her mouth.

“He’s mine, he’s mine, he’s mineeeeee…  The boy is mine!”  I exclaimed, slinging her skanky ass to the floor as some people behind me started clapping as I turned around to see that David was nowhere to be found.

Where in the hell is he?  I know he didn’t just walk his ass up out of here, while I was trying to prove a damn point!  He better have a good damn excuse when I find him.
